eddds Posted August 26, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 26, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yesterday, we spent the last two hours before sunset wandering in the old souk and port of Byblos, while Rodrigue (xvarior) was trying for the first time the RF system (as per his post), we had great time and Rodrigue looked very experienced with the M9. Louis Posted August 26, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 26, 2014 Edgard, when Rodrigue mentioned going for a shoot with a RF and a friend; I knew it was you! He was, indeed, in good company; with an expert of RF! :-) You have here a superb set with Rodrigue in the middle of the action! ... I enjoy all your shots, but my favorite is number 2. Very nicely composed with a great character and a superb face and expression!
likalar Posted August 26, 2014 Share #6 Posted August 26, 2014 Thanks! I enjoyed them all. A great selection, and a good argument for "looking off-camera" environmental portraits. Larry

Louis Posted August 27, 2014 Share #12 Posted August 27, 2014 Busted :-) you now know who's my tutor, I didn't mention eddds name on purpose, I knew his post was coming... Love ll his shots specially mine ;-) I just can't stop looking at my picture and realizing how happy I was looking through that finder! That was easy, Rodrigue. I remember one of your threads in another site, shooting refugees with a "friend" who was using a Leica M9 for which some silly people made some very silly comments. I am also familiar with Edgrad's excellent work with RF; and, that you were good friends from some exchanges between you two in LUF! Now, what really interests me is to know how you feel going from XV to RF? Which results satisfy you more? Do you see any major difference between the two systems in converting files to B/W? Does it really take too long to focus with RF? I guess you were often using AF with XV? In shorter words, from your experience, the differences between the two systems! XVarior Posted August 27, 2014 Share #14 Posted August 27, 2014 Well Louis, it's been 2 days only with this totally new-to-me but incredible camera system. The most striking and unparalleled factor of this instrument is not not quantifiable because to me it's more about the rangefinder uniqueness than about specs and capabilities. And here I mean any rangefinder, it could be the M9 M240 M8 MM... Among non RF systems, I find the XVario to be the sweetest and the one I can rely on no matter what and no matter where. Compared to the M9, of course, the big difference is resolution. Remember the M is a full frame and it's a CCD that's known for its sharpness. I was afraid the M would give me some headaches, but so far it didn't. It's accurate but not as accurate as the XV. In matter of WB And skin tones, the XV is a killer! B&W conversion is almost the exact same thing, the same routine I use to convert the XV files is applied to the M files. no differences. Anyways, those 2 systems are not there to compete with each other, but rather, they complement each other à-la-perfection, the XV can't be dethroned from being the daily ultimate companion, the M is for those contemplative moments where you want to immerse yourself in a photographic experience that is the closest it can get to film photography. Shooting with an AF systems is like running, swimming, biking or skiing... Shooting with an RF system is like sailing, walking, golfing... Ultimately, I would like to compare it to YOGA !
