stuny Posted August 21, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 21, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) The play of colors is what first attracted me to take this photo in the main hall of Grand Central Terminal, but when I converted it to B&W I liked it even better. Louis Posted August 21, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) A nice shot, Stuart. As you may have noticed, I am a big fan of B/W. But for this shot, I prefer the color version. Not only the colorful stripes bring more to the shot, but also the soft colorful background. The face also looks better, IMHO, in color!... But the B/W also looks quite nice, too! A miller Posted August 21, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 21, 2014 Heaven forbid that I would be opposed to colors; but in this case the B&W is more effective b/c (i) the WB is a little too blue for my taste (although I tend to like warm color images, which to me has more of an analog rendering), (ii) the highlights in the background work better in B&W and (iii) the lady's hat gives the image a classic look, which given the colors and lighting looks better to me in B&W. wilfredo Posted August 22, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 22, 2014 When you step into the world of B+W, you step into another realm. The impact on the viewer is different, and I believe operates at some deeper level of the psyche.

Michael Hiles Posted August 22, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 22, 2014 I vote for the B&W. She comes away from the background in the B&W. And colour is so hard to control - it adds vast complexities.
