This former British Railways mixed traffic locomotive is just one example of the hundreds making money for the various railway preservation operations around the UK. For a study in dedication, these railways are a symbol of what can be done with committment and shockingly few resources.
Shot at Horsted Keynes on a dreary day at the Bluebell Railway with my wonderful M4. |

SC=Self Cleaning - the ash from the fire is automatically expelled (usually via the exhaust/chimney) thus alleviating the need for someone to physically open the smokebox and clean it by hand.

Paul,
The low angle helps to give this impressive old lady real presence. I find your intro interesting. I think the expressions "dedication", "commitment" and "shockingly few resources" seem to sum a lot about British engineering at its finest. Cheers, Ken. |
