I received my M8 yesterday and was out shooting photos this morning for a club scavenger hut in the category Rule of Thirds. I am posting two photos that I would like help on selecting one for the category next month. Please state your selection, Horse or Sign, in your reply.

I thank you in advance for your help. "71 years and still going strong"

Out of the two, I prefer the horse image. However, as Jaap says, it would be worth revisiting the image and trying to get a more authentic black and white conversion. It looks like you may have used something like Silver Efex Pro, but been a bit heavy on the effects....

Black and white for me, but then thats my media. Just a thought though if using efex pro to convert, try antique plate but with the slightest copper tone instead of sepia (almost mono but not quite) and then blending with a duplicate layer in a higher contrast to bring the blacks out more. It might suit the style of the horses and give it a slightly more old fashioned look without being OTT processed. Just thinking :)

Then again, I quite like the colour effect as well, there's a lovely warm tone across the landscape. Sorry, probably not much help afterall!

I like it, it kind of pops a little more than the plain mono conversion. I might dial back the tone a little more and soften the vignette at the corners but it works. I use efex pro on my work but always very gently, a little at a time, never a straight conversion which can be too much and ends up looking over processed. Layering up to get the subtle effect that hardly looks like its been done is my favorite way of using it.
