Henry,

A great choice for your companion. I think film is a good selection too. Once the film is developed and properly scanned, exceptional pictures can be made.

I still like my M6 classic as well as my digital cameras and better than the Nikon D2sx.

Paul thank you for your comment

Would have to you to take your M6, try a film like Kodak Portra or if you love Fuji , and you compare !

not need to have millions of pixels for normal use, but what faithful is the color ! :)

I envy you, as you can still use an M7. With macular degeneration (wet), I had to give up on my M7 and go to a Zeiss ZI for the viewfinder and capability to compose. I still use my Leica lenses.

My dearly departed wife had her own M7, so we had two between us. I started with an Argus in the early 40s, then picked up a IIIc in Germany in early '46, upgraded to the M4, then to the M6 and finally to the M7.

I started using Kodachrome with the Argus and kept with transparencies through the M7. Film Forever! And my post-processing consists of my light table, a 6x Schneider ASPH loupe and the wastebasket.

Unfortunately, neither my children nor my grandchildren are interested in film. With them, it's digital point-and-shoot or the iPhone.

Times really have changed.

Hi George,

Sorry for this bad news, handicapping for you !

But M7 remains in the family and that's the essential point. I know she will take great pictures :)

I just posted two comments (post 129 and 136) on this thread about the M7 and M8

Doc, you indeed, a very lucky man. Enjoy & show us the frames. All the best. Ben

Hi Ben how are you ? remember you are on my list of friends (look at my profile) :)

I like this picture and you ? like in a movie of "Jack the Ripper" in London

... the color reminds me of the good old Technicolor movies (filmed in England)

Taken in front of one shop in Covent Garden district :)

  • 2 weeks later...
My friend wanted to swop one of his M7's and cash for my 70 year anniversary M4-P but it was a big NO thank you i don't want any electronics in my Leicas

I know you are against any electronic and you're right... but sometimes it's convenient GS... because I do not miss photos

Perhaps with the M-A that I may be ordered I'll need the Lunasix Gossen lightmeter I have and that I did not use it

After the poppies that I take every year, and to test the fidelity of colors and no "synthetic" pictures of digital cameras,I like to test color of vegetables and fruits ! :)

I opened this thread below with the vegetables picture :)

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/other/286747-i-like-film-open-thread.html

This photo below was taken last weekend, there are exactly two days, with a fabulous 90 MacroElmar lens, light and very practical.

I left my Apo Summicron 90 Asph at home because too heavy !

So overall, a good camera like the M7 :) + a good lens and a good film , per example here Kodak Portra 160, we get this picture (without monopod)

Uncropped and uncorrected (no need)

I go back and forth between the M7 and the MP. I prefer the AE of the M7, especially since I almost always want to set the aperture and then vary the shutter speed to get the right exposure, and the MP's shutter dial isn't very ergonomic to move easily with a fingertip. On the other hand I like the rewind of the MP, which feels more sturdy, and the fact it's not so dependent on batteries. On balance, if I were to do it again I would probably have two M7s rather than one of each.
