last week i had to cover a church service, on the evening of the Centenary of WW1 commencing, remembering those who died in service of their country.

it was an interesting service, photographically, as my cameras were deemed to be too loud, and could only be used while music was playing, and the second half of the service was candlelit.

it was a very moving service, and i have the greatest respect for those who willingly go into harms way to protect us

2. The front page of the West Australian, with my picture from before the service.

3. The Villers-Bretonneux cross is carried to the altar

4 + 5 - the church, in candlelight (1/8sec f2.5 6400 ISO)

the story that goes with the pictures can be found here

A fine series with excellent pictures from the inside. Were you using an M body to have a shutter that was too loud for some of the service? I could understand that if a DSLR were used.

Paul

Yes i was using my personal M240 and the work issued 1DX

The 1DX was too loud to be used, other than the two hymns

The Leica could only be used when music was playing.

I do understand, it was a solemn service, very quiet (including 2 mins of silence) and they didnt want a camera clicking away, but the leica is very quiet, i doubt it would have been heard more than 3-4m away.

the church is known for being difficult for photographers too
