Another for the steam buffs

Nice capture of a fascinating piece of steam technology. I wonder what the practical virtues are of this design?

Basically, double the power with a single crew. The design is also very flexible and smooth-riding - the wheels and cylinders are all mounted on swivelling bogies like a modern diesel electric, so it will go round sharp curves. The FR has 3 of these: the one shown, built in 1879, one built in 1979 and another, slightly enlarged and more powerful, built 1992. There's also one from 1885 on loan to York Railway Museum - too thoroughly worn out to be worth overhauling (it was replaced by the 1979 loco).
