Post Number 10 = 3 points
Post Number 3 = 2 points Post Number 4 = 1 point I was going to say that it is remarkable what this old kit will produce, but, actually, when a IIIg and 50 costs more than a Canon 400D + standard zoom + £200, these old fellas should produce images of great worth. I personally can't be doing with a gazillion speed dials and wind on dials and rewind dials and two viewfinders (neither of which are brighter than a match at 300 yards), but good luck to those who can ![]() Nice work guys - what's up for next month? Hope?

I don't like voting for these type of things, it is all so subjective, but my thanks, and good luck to all who submitted their work.

3 points - post #12 - Jan Scheffer - for the simplicity and the story it tells
2 points - post # 10 - Jonathan Etes - for the implication of voluntary hardship and suffering indicated by the trainers 1 point - post # 9 - JC Bracon - for lifting what would otherwise be a relatively ordinary photo by catching the running figure (late for mass?) But they are all good and the choice is not easy. |

Hi! I'm glad my voice will finally be counted somewhere!
3 POINTS: Philippe Octo - "Notre Dame de la Garde", because the faith is all about love, and I like the composition. 2 POINTS: JC Braconi - "A Person Running to Enter the Church", because it reminds me of myself once running to buy some candles at a church, but it was evening and they were just closing, and I like those vertical and horizontal lines. 1 POINT: Jan Scheffner - "A Young Man Lost His Faith", because it's so sad. Best, Milos

3 points, #4, Mauro: Fascinating head interplay. The dark, somber tone of the image fits topic beautifully. My only ‘complaint’ is the spun column at left - striking and dramatic but a touch too dominant. I like it better vertically cropped right to the back of his holiness’ head, along with a horizontal crop of the slightly distracting open area above the center woodwork. That’s just me tho - any way you cut it, it’s a beauty.
2 points, #5, Anthony: A fine, informative portrait with 'magnetic', edgy framing. Love the pale occupied hands, the face in thought over, I suppose, a sermon. 1 point, #6, Michael: Wow, big contrast with a big message! This is a very creative “reach” with an old camera that doesn’t immediately verify how well the four foreground objects were caught in space. Bet you thought this particular pic might just be a good one while waiting for the print. Don’t you just love the patience this old gear demands ... the faith? Thanks Bill for launching this challenge. Didn’t make the tight deadline but will do better next round ... which hopefully might have a wider window of opportunity! Bruce |

3 points - #7 - Philippe Octo - framing, light, composition and a very real 1940's look.
2 points - #3 - Bill Palmer - has a dreamlike quality. 1 point - #5 - Anthony Brookes - the light is wonderful, natural pose and the subject looks so deep in thought. This was not easy........... |

Not easy, they're all good images. But after much deliberation my choices are;
1st Jonathan Etes - I like the muted colour & selective framing 2nd JC Braconi - Composition, sweeping curves of the steps and the figure dashing off in the distance...where are they off to and why the rush? 3rd Bill Palmer - I like graffiti shots. The words 'because I can' and the attempt to scratch the image away make this more interesting in the context of the theme. I'd also like to mention Michael Boylan - a different definition of the theme, I was thinking along the same lines with the shot I had planned but failed to take! Well done to all, I'll try not to miss the next one. |
