Jaap -

I like them a great deal for their less-than-usual angle, their full tonal range, their depth, their crispness (a matter of details and contrast), and the mix of geometrical patterns and lines, small to large.

Hi Japp,

All excellent technically, and a good concept of people and forms.

I like 3 and 4 best for their simplicity and the prominence of the people in them. In 4, I would try a version minus the rack and handrail at the very bottom -- just to simplify even more.

1 would have been superb if you had captured a person on each level.

Overall, I like the artistic possibilities here. A good study and possible long-term project, particularly as temperatures plummet each winter.

Thanks folks. I agree with your ideas, John. However it is not to be. The photo's were taken in the largest bookstore of Rotterdam, and they are definitely not photographer-friendly. I was asked to stop taking photographs within ten minutes of starting, being as soon as they could get senior sales-staff to me....

Yes, that's a problem more and more these day. Last time I went street shooting someone called the police, who stopped me on the way home, wanting to know if I had pictures of children in my camera. It's enough to turn you into a nature photographer.
