I believe that it has been illegal to do this in the UK for about 20 years, because an intruder may be injured by climbing over the glass.

Jonathan -

Whenever we arrive in a country for the first time I watch to see indications, such as these, of its being a high crime area.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
Stuart, as far as this being a high crime area, well, the whole city has this type of preventive method. In some places it's as low as eye level (I'm 181 cm), though I have seen lower. Another strange and dangerous thing is that they use barb wire as normal fencing. I've seen it next to playground, fencing off construction sites on a busy street, where a chainlink fence would be....they just thrown up barb wire without thinking about some lilttle kid running into it.

What an interesting glass recycling method... I've seen that in Portugal, but this one is a must. ;-)

John's comment made my day.

I´ve been thinking...this very well may be a government sponsored investigation into new methods of replenishing the blood shortage in this country. I guess the Red Cross trailers weren´t attracting enough people.

It scares me even to look at this. Reminds me of a wall in a back alley in the Lower East Side of Manhattan when I used to live there.
