bill Posted June 1, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 1, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) As the winner of the last Barnack Challenge, it falls to me to set the theme and timescales for the next round. So. Barnack Challenge #9 will have a theme of "OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS". Your shot may be candid, posed, portrait, street, but it must have as the main subject one or more other photographers. They need not be using Leica equipment but they should be in the act of preparing for, or taking, a photo. Self-portraits are not allowed! Two other notes - firstly, I am aware that there is a thread running on the German Forum that has a similar subject - you are reminded that you MUST shoot within the timescales shown for the Barnack Challenge. Secondly, I am also aware that the Hessenpark meeting occurs during the open period for this Challenge. I am sure that it will be a "target-rich" environment... I'm not banning shots from there, but I'd like to see something a little more creative than a shot of someone trying out an S2... Dates: Competition start:: 8th June Competition ends: Midnight, 21st June Entries posted by: Midnight, 5th July Voting Starts, 6th July Voting ends: Midnight, 19th July All times are GMT +1 Start thinking! Good luck all. Best regards, Bill

farnz Posted June 1, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 1, 2009 (edited) ... They need not be using Leica equipment but they should be in the act of preparing for, or taking, a photo. ... Bill, Please correct me if I'm mistaken but don't forum rules only allow posting of photos shot with Leica equipment? If so, are you advocating weblinks to other sites as well as posted photos for entries? Pete. Edit: Duh; you mean that the photo's need not feature only photographers using Leica equipment, don't you. Oops. "My bad" as they say. Peter58 Posted June 9, 2009 Share #6 Posted June 9, 2009 I'm shooting now with two Barnak's but alas they are Russian copies, a nice Zorki and a good FED. But I am using two Leica lenses the 3,5cm f/3.5 Summaron and the 5cm f/2 Summitar. I just cannot win as I'm also shooting a lot using my M5 and three Leica lenses 5cm Summilux f/1.4, 9cm Elmar f/4 and 13,5cm Elmar f/4. I wish I was more of a forum rule breaker just for now, and posted the Zorki and FED images anyway! (after a scan). Well perhaps I will break down and purchase the IIIf that I have been holding off. My problem now is that I'm on long term disability and will be forced to move from my home soon, So spending cash on the IIIf will be SUCH A RELIEF!!!! If I do it I will be back-here. -Peter ...formally registered since 2005 as Peter55. But I lost that registration by accident last year. Sop now I am registered as a new member, Peter58. Is the O-Serie authorized for this competition?

Peter, I appreciate both your honesty and your position. I'm just about to respond to your other thread over on the Collectors and Historica Sub-Forum. Sorry if this has been answered previously, but I could not get a definitive answer through search. Is the O-Serie authorized for this competition? Michael, as far as I'm concerned as a Leica it is, and I wrote the rules in the first place! Regards, Bill Edited June 10, 2009 by bill

Peter Peter, thanks (again) As the proud and happy owner of two of your pouches already, I can vouch for their high quality - a prize well worth winning! PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR IMAGES ON THIS THREAD. in any event, Neal, this is a BARNACK competition!!!! Please read the rules! nealf Posted June 14, 2009 Share #12 Posted June 14, 2009 Please forgive my oversight. I indeed did not read the rules. I had thought that this was a Leica photographic site, not the Antiques Road Show !!!
bill Posted June 14, 2009 Author Share #13 Posted June 14, 2009 LoL! Had to be an M8 owner with an attitude like that. Neal, it's a broad church. Leica has been around for longer than the last four years. If you don't like it feel free to start your own competition. Regards, Bill
nealf Posted June 14, 2009 Share #14 Posted June 14, 2009 Bill, I've been using Leicas for 45+ years, I know of few people who have owned more leicas or for that matter more types of leicas than I have. Currently I have 11 leicas from a model A up to the M8, 5 of them are what you would consider "Barnack" cameras although I consider all to be thus. My "attitude" was due to your over-reaction and yelling over my mistake. BTW for those who want to play with their antiques exactly where do they post their images? Neal Thank you for your clarification, Neal. I didn't have you down as one of the M8 zealots... If you go to the top of this thread you will find the dates. You have one more week in which to shoot. On or about the 21st I shall start a separate thread for entries. Feel free to enter - provided you use one of your LTMs. The "Barnack" tag is not something I coined, BTW, but I use it, as do many others, to refer to LTM Leitz cameras that would have been designed by, or fabricated during the lifetime of, dear old Oscar.
