Leica C - no profile in LR5.5?

Just downloaded some raw files from a new Leica C into LR5.5 ('copy as DNG'). In the Develop module, clicking on 'Lens Correction - Profile - Enable Profile Corrections', there is no Leica C in the drop-down box. Not enough cameras out there for Adobe to bother about?

On reflection, maybe I can answer my own question - presumably there are no profiles for zoom lenses?!

Keith,

There is no profile at all in Capture one. They are sometimes a bit slow off the mark on Leica profiles, so I will give them a nudge. Mind you the main user of the C, my wife, is pretty unlikely to use RAW anyway.

Wilson,

I was assuming that the relatively low number of Leica C cameras sold put it a long way down Adobe's priority list. Seems that the X-Vario is in the same situation - took delivery yesterday and the same situation with LR5.5 exists.

PS - my comment about zoom lenses is a complete red herring. It was only after posting I remembered that there was a much needed CS/LR profile for the Canon 24-105L I used to have (barrel distortion at the wide end).

Keith,

I just checked and to my pleasant surprise found that C1 has a Panasonic LF1 profile, which will be near enough if not identical to a C(112) profile. Maybe worth checking that LR does not have an LF1 profile.

Keith,

Not sure I was correct there. The Panasonic lists its RAW format on the LF1 as a .RAW file, whereas the C(112) lists its RAW file as a .RWL. They are both supported by Adobe RAW (version 8.2 and above). I will have to experiment today with both LR and C1.

Wilson,

My workflow is to import as .dng into LR5.5 and make most changes there. Having taken delivery of an X-Vario on Friday, it is disappointing to find that, just like the C, LR5.5 does not have a profile. I only have CS4 so am limited to Camera Raw 5.7 but at least this recognises both the C and X-Vario raw files. One has to hope that between them Leica and Adobe add the relevant profiles to Lightroom (why else provide the licence?).

Wilson,

In LR5.5, when I select to edit a file in CS4 the following window appears. I choose 'Render using Lightroom' in the belief that this is the better option. The file then opens in CS4 without Camera Raw appearing. AFAIK, to update CS to Camera Raw v8.5, I would have to join the latest Adobe lease programme, paying the monthly subscription. As I have full Lightroom and CS4 licences, this hardly seems worthwhile.

Keith as a work around, could you temporarily uninstall PS CS4, update ACR for Lightroom to 8.5, then reinstall CS4. There must be loads of folk who have LR and don’t have PS. If for any reason you are unable to download ACR 8.5, I would be happy to send you the update package or the manual installation file. I think if you search Google there is a way to run two different versions for different programs.

Wilson, I will have to ponder on that. AFAIK, Camera Raw is integral to CS/PS, so how will temporarily uninstalling CS4 help? My LR5.5 is the latest issue and as far as I can see it doe not have an 'open in Camera Raw' option (unlike Bridge). I struggle see how having LR5.5 as a stand-alone installation will trigger a download of Camera Raw 8.5.

Keith,

You are correct. LR does not use ACR as its RAW engine directly, I was looking at this yesterday. Somehow ACR is integral within LR and you cannot update it separately like PS as I thought. For example ACR Beta 8.6 came out a couple of days ago but even though I have installed that, LR 5.5 still only has the functionality of ACR 8.5 and will not include the functionality of 8.6 with more Leica Lens profiles until LR 5.6 comes out. Updated ACR is one reason I bit the bullet and splashed out for CC. That worked out very expensive as I also had to buy a new Mac as my old one did not have enough video memory to run CC and video memory was not upgradable.
