Cases for Leica C

I would appreciate some feedback on the different Leica cases for the Leica C. There are several.

There is the 'C-case' which looks like a conventional case, but does it have a fixed flap that hangs from the camera when in operation? Too cumbersome it would seem and not cheap. But looks very nice though.

There is the C-clutch which looks too big for a compact camera.

The C-snap which looks good but is it efficient (one half of the camera is not covered)?

And the C-pouch - seems like that one offers little protection.

It is hard to see what they all look like, and how they perform. Very few pictures can be googled, and they all look like the ones on the Leica-site. Anybody wants to share their personal experience with any of these? It would be much appreciated.

The Leica branded cases for the C work much better as fashion accessories than they do as cases. I suspect that is Leica has positioned the camera. And it works. My wife wants the C and the clutch purely because they look fantastic together and she can have her clutch and camera in one stylish package. And for people like her, I think Leica's offering the right thing. I think if you're looking for a functional case, you should probably look at the offerings from 3rd parties. The usual suspects should have some choices available.

Yes, these cases look very beautiful, but as for functionality I have my doubts as well. Too bad you can't see any pictures of these cases except the ones from the Leica website.

Thank you,

I use a lowepro case it cost about USD10.00 and the camera barely fits in it. I use it to throw camera in my briefcase but it is not usable full time.

Lowerpro make a huge range to fit all kinds of gear - they'll have one that's more suitable that the model you bought. http://www.lowepro.com/intl

I've recently acquired two of the AW series cases, they're very well made and have a handy pull out rainproof cover.

If you just want a pouch case I recently bought quite a few Crumpler CC 70 pouch cases for a couple of Contax T compacts and other bits and pieces. Amazon are still selling the cream and brown version for an amazing £2.25 which includes delivery !!! I paid £1.99 they are a steal at that and will fit iPhones if you want something a bit padded. They are worth buying if only to put keys in as the have a neck strap built in too. For that price I suggest you take a punt regardless . Be quick they will fly after this

I got the black Leica C case yesterday. A very nice case. It is comparable with the one I have for the D-Lux 3. You just slide in the camera. Have to say that I find the quality of the C case, certainly the strap, better than the one for the D-Lux 3 I got years ago.

I have ordered this one for the ex-demo C I have bought for my wife to replace her V-Lux 20. Made by Hozer - available on Amazon.

Follow up. Do NOT buy the Hozer case. It is made from horrible synthetic vinyl leather and the fit is dreadful as you can see in the pic below. It is wholly unusable as the case jams the adjustment ring round the lens. I will probably end up buying a Leica one.

I also bought such one on ebay for approx. 8.7 Euro shipping included. Have to agree it jams the ring round the lens. Ended finally with the C Case from Leica, a quality product.

I have to give Hozer due credit. I sent them photos indicating where the problem was and where the fit was poor. They are refunding my Amazon payment and say I am welcome to keep the case (not that it is any use)! I have just ordered a C-Twist Case and matching strap from DPM in Hyères. What started out as a good value purchase for my wife, by the time I have added the duty, VAT and UPS processing charges plus the case and strap, is looking quite expensive.

The grey suede C-Twist case and matching strap are very smart and tactile but then they should be for the price of €110 for the pair. I particularly like that the metal lens protector is a tight fit round the adjuster ring to keep out dust from the retraction mechanism. I am sure it is this that has caused problems on all my wife’s previous Leica compacts (2 C-Lux’s and a V-Lux 20).

Interesting observations in this thread.

Now I have a new Leica C, do any of the cases incorporate a loop for fixing on a belt?

Richard

Because all the cases we have been describing are fitted "Ever Ready" type flip open cases, that would not be possible. Loads of case makers do small P&S camera cases with belt loops, Lowepro etc. However the Leica slip case is small enough to fit into most pockets.

My Crumpler CC 70's still work well with a range of small compacts. They have a small amount of protective padding, slightly water resistant and have a neck strap and certain models have a belt loop too.

Depending on which colour you want, potentially less than £6

I agree that the Crumpler CC70 is a practical and inexpensive solution. I do not have a Leica C but I have its Panasonic clone the LF1. I do not like the Crumpler logo but as it is stitched on it is easily removed. If I remember correctly mine cost only £2.50 from Amazon but I think it was a special offer.
