Clip on lens hood damaging barrel

Version II should look like this, and the groove for the clamp on hood is the recessed part of the barrel that carries the aperture index mark (white point). What madNbad writes is valid for the version IV but not for the earlier versions of the Summicron 35.

Now, make sure the claws of the hood retract fully when you press down the tabs. Some hoods have very stiff springs and the claws do not retract without a considerable amount of pressure. It is also possible that the mechanism is broken. If you try to mount the hood wihout the claws being fully retraced you could indeed scratch the barrel.

Don´t know of another shade, but I´am afraid the square one doesn´t fit the vers. II-lens.

The round one is o. k .on a later lens.

I use the old type regularly on the vers. IV-SUMMICRON and like it more than

the original square shade ... Rotating it doesn´t do much harm, only a slightest

abrasion which is hardly to be seen.

I have not had trouble with the lens like yours. Mine is with the MATE 28-35-50 lens when reversing the lens hood for compactness before placing in a combination bag. The black is rubbed away, despite exercising care when stowing the hood. If I could find a suitable cap so that the hood could stay in place, that would be my preference.
