Hi everyone!

I'm Abram from Southern California, I've been a photographer for the past 15 years and I was first exposed to Leicas in 2004 when I attended school at the Brooks Institute of Photography. At that first moment I fell in love with the operation of rangefinders and the seed was planted.

I knew some day I had to have one.

Over time I never forgot that desire, but the opportunity never presented itself for me to actually purchase my own Leica, many near-misses, and lost chances, but I maintained the thought that I would someday have the opportunity. This year has been one of colossal change for me as a photographer, though my career is relatively young, I have been transitioning more towards the world of Graphic Design and Video Production (especially since I have found myself back in school studying the former). This change has allowed me to reevaluate my desire to pursue commercial photography, and over time I essentially changed my entire equipment lineup.

All of this to say, that today I finally found my moment, and I purchased an M240 (after liquidating my entire Canon DSLR kit, a familiar constant over the past 12 years). I'm just going to start with one lens for a while and focus on telling stories and producing work that I want to produce. Suffice it to say, I'm excited, and I hope I get the opportunity to be involved here and get to know you all.

Thanks for reading my little story :)

Welcome to the forum! There is no shortage of opinons about which lens you should purchace first. (35 Summicron ASPH) What you like to photograph and your style will lead you to the decision. Don't worry, whatever choice you make will fit any film M. Good luck with your M240.

I have a strong preference for 35 and 50mm lenses (I like to have both). I'm leaning towards getting the Zeiss ZM lenses as I am a fan of Carl Zeiss optics and like their look. It would also be within my budget as I just spent the majority of it on the body itself ha! (That was a tough pill to swallow, probably my largest single-item purchase I've ever made outright.

If you are thinking about Zeiss, don't overlook the 35mm 2.8 Biogon. Small, sharp and a great little lens. For a 50 the 2.0 Planar is another good choice. Many times they're available second hand in almost new condition for a very good price. If it's possible, borrow a lens and see how you like working with a particular focal length. As has been said, if you find yourself backing up to include more in the frame, go wider. If you find yourself moving closer for more isolation, go longer. Good luck with your search, the forum will provide you with plenty of information.

I tracked down a ZM 35mm f/2 for a decent price and I will probably add the 28 and 50 eventually. (My three favorite focal lengths)

I also have been shooting with a Mamiya 7II for the past year and I started with the 65mm lens, and only added the 150mm when I felt like I wanted a tighter crop (though the short base-length of the M7II makes it a little difficult to use up close).

I can't wait to receive my camera and start shooting my personal work with it, if it interests anyone, my most recent work is on flickr (as I'm rebuilding my website currently to include my Design and Video work)
