Just bought a second hand m8.

Hoping someone could help me with few decisions.

how can I determine whether the camera is 8 or 8.2?

I'm planning to shoot 50mm, which means I would need a 35mm.

been looking at the 35mm summicron f2.

does it necessarily need 6 bit coding?

Hi Alphabeatsco

Welcome to the forum !!

You don't absolutely have to have your lens coded but a UV/IR filter would be essential if you haven't already got one.

Most do code their lenses but as aleady said, it is not absolutely critical at 35mm.

I'm told that it is possible to replicate the coding on the lens mount using a 'Sharpie' or similar marking pen and this might be worth a try.

Consider also the 50mm range of lenses, which produce excellent results with that crop factor.
