Default Last week's birds

First was Sunday morning when I found a Green Heron:

and on Tuesday I made an early morning trip to the Bay area and found I had some extra time just after sunrise.

Sanderling:

Black-bellied Plover still in winter plumage:

All photos: R8/DMR, 560mm f/6.8 Telyt, shoulder stock & monopod. Tuesday birds also with UET-R extension tube, on my knees. All comments welcome.

Absolutely fabulous, Doug. Esp like number 2

What you can do with the 560 is a real inspiration - I must get mine out again one of these days!

Doug -

The only thing wrong with your photos and postings is that you don't do them frequently enough. As usual, these are excellent in subject, framing, detail, color and light.

I must stop clicking on your threads, Doug. The contents are depressingly superior.
These are, as always, great.....

Doug,

Absolutely fantastic pictures. Just wonderful light in the sanderling and plover pictures. I don't think I've ever seen them resting on one leg before. They seem to be running around all the time. Any chicks from these shorebirds up there yet? We do have plover chicks running around down here, but they're in a protected zone, far behind a wire fence to get a good picture.

Peter

Thanks all for the comments. Peter, I have not seen any shorebird chicks yet. Unfortunately I won't be visiting this particular beach (Alameda south shore) any time soon so those that hatch there will probably have flown before I visit again.

Stuart, I'll be visiting the mountains in northeastern California for the next two weeks, and I hope to come back with many more photos.

Andy, the DMR has made the 560 my most-used lens. In particular the image quality above ISO 200 has made a huge difference. The rubber thumb dot on my 560 was new in 2002 and because of the DMR I've almost worn through it
