Sipadan, one of the nearby islands to where we stayed for SCUBA diving in Malaysian Borneo (we stayed on Mabul Island) no longer has a resort on it. Now there is only a small military installation (to help prevent piracy) and a turtle refuge. Consequently we saw several sea turtles on nearly every one of our 41 dives in and around the area. Here are about 1/3 or my turtle shots.

Stuart- As with your other undersea shots these are absolutely fantastic! I find it very difficult to select one picture that I prefer. They are all excellent, well done!

Mike - Thank you. Looking back I see that I took 17 turtle pictures -- I guess that's enough.
Andy - Thank you. The set-up was the Panasonic version of the C-Lux in a Panasonic enclosure good to 40 meters, mounted on a base with an extension and arm for a flash. The flash was on Inon 2000, firing slaved off the camera's built in flash via an optical cable. Maybe this weekend I'll get a chance to photograph the set-up and include it in the next posting of undersea photos. Luigi - Thank you. Barbara spotted that shot and loved the way the turtle was resting its head in the coral. |

Stuart,
These are wonderful pictures. I like #5 best because of the more "natural" colors. #4 is the funniest. I would put in the following caption: "All these annoying photographers ... I'm getting the hell outta here." Peter

Fantastic shots and very interesting to read about your set-up for underwater photography. It is really interesting to the see the creatures stuck to the belly of the turtle (barnacles?). What a terrific keepsake of your dives, it must have been an amazing experience. LouisB

Caryl - Thank you, and yes it was wonderful. Barbara does exquisite research and planning for our trips and they are always super.
Big - Thank you, and I think they are barnacles, too. |
