This is beautiful, Peter. One thing I like about it is the background, believe it or not. It's a bit busy, but it adds context to the picture and it's not so detailed and contrasty that it would draw attention away from the goose. Well done.

Not a good picture? It's a fabulous picture. I actually really like the background. The muted light browns are very complimentary with the tack sharp goose flying by in the foreground.

Mike, Doug, and Brent,

Thank you very much for those kind remarks.

Mike,
One thing I do like about Canons is the high ISO noise. The 1Ds3 is much better than its predecessor. Unfortunately the DMR can't compete in the high ISO area. Having said that, there is appreciable noise at ISO 3200. I used Neat Image to reduce noise in the background selectively. I did not touch the goose with noise reduction, because I didn't want any details to get lost. Reducing the picture size helped tremendously in removing what noise there was. Although I enjoy using 1Ds3, I miss the DMR, which is in NJ along with the R9 for some repairs.

As happens quite regularly here, there are photos that just make one insanely jealous!

What a fabulous shot - the contrast of the irregular background and the perfect symmetry of the bird is extraordinary. And that ignores the beauty of a balanced and focussed shot.

If one was studying these creatures, this would make a superb reference.

Lovely - really very lovely. Blown up and framed? I would!

Dikdik, Mehmet, and Neil,

Thank you very much for the compliments.

Neil, I did print it and looks good. Not quite yet framed, though.
