Right..up to the point of the shutter release...clearly "motion blurr".. this is the reason why people put their Telephoto lenses in the closet......try and try again...use the "mirror lock up"..a good and steady tripod and be self-critical when you clearly see and know the focus is damaged by an unsteady camera and lens...

He'll be back again...try again

If its the D2 or an FZ..same applies..

how ever does one use mirror lock up when shooting a bird?
they don't hold still for long
there may be a bit of blur here
I think a faster shutter speed may have helped, but this is a fine capture of a lovely little bird
