allamande Posted February 22, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 22, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wish I knew the name of this bush/tree. Saw it on a walk by the side of the road. It was full of these pompoms. Look at those seeds waiting for their moment to take flight! D-Lux 109 Welcome, dear visitor! Louis Posted February 22, 2015 Share #2 Posted February 22, 2015 Dear Ece, this is a fantastic shot. Great colors, and IQ. I know how small they are and you really did a good job. I shot one of them in DC botanic garden with DL4 a few years ago, but of course, shot with 109 is very different! very best, Welcome, dear visitor! platypus Posted February 23, 2015 Share #3 Posted February 23, 2015 Ece, this is lovely! For some reason it reminds me strongly of Degas paintings of ballerinas. It is supremely decorative.

allamande Posted February 23, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted February 23, 2015 Louis, Dee, Mike, and all the thumbs up! Thank you for sharing my enthusiasm about these pompoms and for your great feedback. Always much appreciated. Louis, your image is a classic. Next time you are at the botanical gardens, please write down the name of the plant and let us know what it is. Dee, I can see how this would lead you to think of Degas, with the fluffy round shapes looking like tutus with colors straight out of his palette. A Partly cloudy sky was a lucky break that day! Louis Posted February 23, 2015 Share #6 Posted February 23, 2015 Ece, this is what I found in the Internet: Tropical and Houseplant Flowers and Leaves (except Orchids) - CalW This what it says under the flower: Baja Fairy Duster, Calliandra californica, United States Botanic Garden, Washington, DC. I hope it helps!
