XVarior Posted December 8, 2014 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Found this guy chilling on the border of that pond with his tale partially submerged in water. I wonder if he was using it as a fishing line ;-) Welcome, dear visitor! pauledell Posted December 8, 2014 Share #6 Posted December 8, 2014 XV, A superlative shot that is positively hilarious. The full frame that includes the cat's reflection is perfect. Paul

Michael Geschlecht Posted December 8, 2014 Share #8 Posted December 8, 2014 Hello XVarior, Nice photo. How do you think the photo would look if you leave the cat & the deep rich colors exactly as they are & you crop out the the entire grey stone left side & the entire grey stone bottom? The new bottom left corner of the resulting photo would be water. Best Regards, Michael
allamande Posted December 9, 2014 Share #9 Posted December 9, 2014 First of all, it's a gorgeous setting, this cat clearly has taste! And your treatment makes it ever more inviting. Beautiful light and framing. I had a cat eons ago who used to dip his paw in water and then lick it in lieu of drinking, especially when the water source was too deep for him to reach comfortably with his mouth. This image brought back memories. Ece

pop Posted December 9, 2014 Share #12 Posted December 9, 2014 Thanks Michael, here we go with your cropping suggestion. Not bad ha ;-) Funny shot. I prefer the original one because it is more suggestive of the scenery.
jaapv Posted December 9, 2014 Share #13 Posted December 9, 2014 I agree with Philipp. Now the cat looks like it is pushed out of the image through the left hand top corner.

XVarior Posted December 9, 2014 Author Share #16 Posted December 9, 2014 This is the way I would crop it... (I'll remove if you object ) no not at all. I love it. Actually, Ive made almost the same crop for a print! Thanks for suggesting Jaap, not too long ago, I cropped a picture of a friend on Facebook and send it to him by private message, so only him can see it, he got offended. he told me not to touch his images again and before I got a chance to apologise he blocked me ;-( some guys really got offended but I don't really understand why? I mean, I don't steel the image, nor alerted it and post it for people to see, I was just suggesting in private!
jaapv Posted December 9, 2014 Share #17 Posted December 9, 2014 It is something I am extremely careful about. People feel very protective about their photographs and it is annoying if one has been at an image for quite a while in Lightroom and somebody changes it to something you wanted to avoid. So I do this rarely and always offer to delete.
allamande Posted December 9, 2014 Share #18 Posted December 9, 2014 Sorry but that crop destroys the sense of place and what that cat seems to be enjoying as well as the strong geometry of the composition. It is now a cat picture. Nothing wrong with that, of course. But the first has so much sensory information, so much more to offer. Perhaps a slight horizontal crop just editing the very bottom edge would be the extent I would go. Ece

As unbelievable as it sounds, those 2000, 3000 rocky burial items are scattered by thousands across Lebanon. Only those belonging to kings and other eminent historic figures are kept in museums, the rest is scattered out there as the one you see above! I'm thinking to get one for myself :-)
Michael Geschlecht Posted December 9, 2014 Share #20 Posted December 9, 2014 Hello Again XVarior, It is interesting that there are so many opinions about this photo in its various permutations. I think this is because your original photo is a good picture from many different perspectives. This gives a viewer more options to consider if they are thinking about varying the composition. I also think part of the diversity of opinion among the various photos is because Jaap's equally nice version is more of a modification of your original idea while I saw a somewhat different picture within a picture & reformatted the borders to construct it. Best Regards, Michael
