stuny Posted October 15, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 15, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) The first is a male perched well above the Rio Negro in the Brazilian Pantanal. The next two, though nowhere near as clear, show part of an interesting behavior. This female Amazon kingfisher landed with its catch and began slapping the fish against its perch to break the fish's bones. Then if flipped the bird 90 degrees horizontally, and swallowed it whole. Tom Barry Posted October 15, 2014 Share #2 Posted October 15, 2014 Fascinating behavior. That first shot is exceptionally clean and clear.

fotografr Posted October 15, 2014 Share #4 Posted October 15, 2014 Beautiful and interesting. Nature can be cruel. I wonder if the fish was dead by the time it went down the hatch? That wouldn't be my idea of a good way to die.

Louis Posted October 16, 2014 Share #6 Posted October 16, 2014 Amazing how close you can go with that super zoom! The new camera does not have the same range, but the photos coming from that sensor are breathtaking!
stuny Posted October 16, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted October 16, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) K-H & Ingrid - Thank you. Louis - Thank you. I'm giving the new one some consideration and might look at one tomorrow. I'm concerned about size, weight and the zoom -- If the move to digital zoom is fast enough, the sensor size should make up for the lost pixels, and of course I'd get significantly better low light performance. Perhaps the DMR/R8 and lenses will go on eBay or as trade-in. A lot of "we'll see."
