Iduna Posted August 17, 2014 Share #7 Posted August 17, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) fantastic series. I cannot tell my favourite because each one is equally good in composition and rendering. for each animal you found a fine frame. The silhouttes, the leopard night, the buffalo and all the others are pof a haptic presence. Thanks for sharing these outstanding results.
stickan1 Posted August 17, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 17, 2014 (edited) Really fine work! It is nice to see a BW series from Africa. Some of the best makes me think about Nick Brandts work! My favourite is the third with the hyena. It is like the animal is looking at the photographer and say: "this is my land! MarkP Posted September 11, 2014 Share #14 Posted September 11, 2014 (edited) Spectacualr photos. Your PP skills have progressed light years in days! I've only recently discovered Nick Brandt's work and have bought some of his books. Does anyone know how he shot some of those wildlife 'portraits' as they look like they were taken close up with standard focal length lenses? MarkP Posted September 11, 2014 Share #16 Posted September 11, 2014 (edited) Thank you, excellent essay. God knows how Brandt took those photos safely with such short lenses. Edited September 11, 2014 by MarkP
epand56 Posted September 11, 2014 Share #17 Posted September 11, 2014 Breathtaking pictures, with an incredible mood and beautiful tones. Which lenses did you use if I may ask?

jpk Posted September 11, 2014 Author Share #19 Posted September 11, 2014 Breathtaking pictures, with an incredible mood and beautiful tones. Which lenses did you use if I may ask? Thank you! Most of the animals I took with the Macro-Elmar 90, some also with the APO-Summicron 50. The last picture with the elephant is not cropped at all: we saw him coming along the track where our Jeep was on, so the driver decided to make way for the animal and stopped near the track. The elephant came to us really close while passing very relaxed, but there was no time to change lenses, so I was lucky to get the shot without cutting too much away. The frame lines were already "inside" the elephant. ISO 2000, 1/60, shortly before sunset...
fotografr Posted September 11, 2014 Share #20 Posted September 11, 2014 Very nice collection of images. I particularly like the group of five elephants, the giraffe getting ready to eat your lens, the wildebeests and the shot of low sun on the horizon.
