platypus Posted April 17, 2014 Share #4 Posted April 17, 2014 But there is nothing 'common' about your rendition of these beautiful objects, and you have the lighting and focus just perfect.

tundraline Posted April 18, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Very nice photos (as are those of the Japanese maple trees). Did you use an older Elamarit 2.8 R 1800mm lens, or a newer APO version of the 180mm lens? I am thinking about buying a 180mm R lens, and have pretty much settled on an APO Telyt 3.4 version. But the close-focusing distance of the APO Telyt is pretty large and would be incapable of getting the sorts of shots shown above. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance, Tom
Iduna Posted April 18, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted April 18, 2014 Louis, wow, thanks a lot your your emotional response. It will push me going further Brent, oh, many thanks for your great support. It will push up my benchmark and will inspire me for an upgrade. Paul, your comment is always helpful. I am delighted that you like this approach and I promise I'll keep going. Stuart, many thanks, more will follow and I hope to keep imagination and creativity in flow for more. Tom, many thank for your response and question. My R Elmarit 180 is working like new after I got it back from Solms for repair. Although to Leica standards it might not be an outstanding lens it is providing a good contrast (with polarizer it is even better), a pleasnat bokeh and is easy to handle and focus. Flowers and obejcts in near distance are no problem. I have also a R Telyt 250 mm which I only use for animal shooting (mind the long focussing distance you mentioned) This lens is also heavy and cannot be focussed without a monopod. This works very well then. For deals I am in constant contact with my local dealer and likewise search on ebay, checked out KEH recently but did not find much on R lenses there. For the Elmarit R 180 I did not bother about APO (I do not really know whether there is a version) because I did not think it worthwhile spending so much money on a lens which is not in daily use. This normal version was about 600,- € if I remember correctly. What I do have is an APO converter. This is essential because if aou add glass this should have the best quality in order to preserve as much image quality you can get.
