113 Silver or Black ?

I thought I would start one of these threads as I find them relaxing :o and maybe it will help me decide ...

So I really like the silver version as an object. In fact its the closest thing to a "special edition" which Leica has ever delivered as a standard model

However its very "silver" and stand outish. I want something quite subtle for street photography so black, but on the other hand as ownership enjoyment for myself I would like the silver

Perhaps people would ignore silver "on the street" as it looks like an old fashioned thing or I should just be sensible and get the black.

The other thing about the black is that it looks very good with the EVF, cool even, but the EVF looks a bit weird on the silver camera (not that I intend to use the EV much!)

Ramble over ;)

Understand your concerns :D

I bought a silver one, because of its beauty. The EVF doesn't look bad on it, but you may consider a brown leather(ette) wrap to match the body!

People in the street do notice the camera and certainly with the black EVF attached. They love it. It is not helpful to unobtrusively shoot though. But hey, you can't win them all.:)

Yes, understand as well. what a dilemma to be in, LOL.

The same situation arose when I decided on the X Vario, but it was made simpler as my supplier only had the silver.

In the end I actually liked the silver, although at the time I wanted black, it would have matched my X1.

Either way, if I had the opportunity to buy the X I feel I would go "stand outish" and get the silver, with brown/tan leather, I think it looks stunning.

Good luck with your choice.

Equally, given that consumer cameras have tended to be silver for the past few decades and bigger pro SLRs black, silver may also give a discrete impression?

I bought the silver 113 a few days ago and very first impressions are great, can really verify comments about it being a great performer in low light. The MF ring is wonderful, just like the XV's which I have grown very used to this year. Shame the EVFs are not cross-compatible.

For those going for the 113 + 107 system, they make a great pair. Equally impressive is the ONA Bowery, this makes a great compact bag. It holds both cameras, chargers, battery, etc, as well as the ever ready case which can fit either camera perfectly for the day when I am travelling lighter.

I love the silver 107. in some ways it is more practical then the silver 113 as it doesn't have a silver lens, which is quite stand out

thanks for the photos

still not sure what to do :(

however whatever I do I'll grab the new leica brown half case, looks nice

I had this same dilemma when getting my 113. I could not make up my mind so I decided to see and handle the silver and black in person. Leica LA had both versions for me to play with at the store along with all the accessories. One look at them side by side and I quickly made up my mind. I gaffer taped the red dot and it now looks stealth, like a mini black M-P.a6937d10bba96575f063d831cc23df43.jpg

I have the same combo, though all in black. Sometimes I wonder whether it really is a "travelling lighter" solution. About 1.2kg, about the same as a M9 with e.g. a 28mm Elmarit and 75mm Summarit. And cost wise, a used digital M with two CV or ZM lenses does not cost (much) more.

True, it isn't really a travelling lighter solution with the whole bag. But I have the ever-ready case in there which can fit either camera when travelling lighter. Today I just had the 113 with me in this case.

For doing portraits with my 2 year old, the only choice is the 113 Mini M Mickey Mouse edition. Works like a charm. =)

I like the silver one but I don`t understand that Leica didn`t sell the RVF and the handgrip in silver too.

With these two, the X looks shitty...

I asked Leica, Germany if they will sell them in silver the next time but they told me till now there is no thinking about it.

Thats poor.

Look at Fuji: They sell silver and black Handgrips, Lenshoods and Objektivs for their cams...

I was thinking exactly the same. I bought the silver version but obviously Leica didn't think about accesories for it. The black hand grip looks terrible with it, the evf mmm so-so and the vintage leather case is a different brown to the one they use for the body so we are stuck with the taupé case. :((

I was at the photography show at the NEC in Birmingham and ended up purchasing the silver one as it looks so good. It invokes a real feeling of nostalgia in me. The show prices were really good on 113's...£300 off making them £1250. Not exactly a steal but with this kind of saving my resolve just crumbled :)

My wife is now the proud owner of my X1 :D
