papimuzo Posted October 18, 2014 Share #3 Posted October 18, 2014 Essentially UV filter and the handgrip. On some occasion an optical viewfinder (50 or 28 mm) .Happy day and pictures.
wda Posted October 18, 2014 Share #4 Posted October 18, 2014 The hand-grip is one of the best I've used with a smooth flat surface for the finger tips. I tried the case but did not find it gave me the degree of security of tenure I needed. Lens hood - a must-have for me, mainly to deflect stray fingers etc. No filters but, as recommended within this forum, the Raynox close-up attachment is a fine three-element optic which allows even closer focusing on small objects. Acekerman Posted October 18, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted October 18, 2014 Thanks for the candid advice everyone. Trying to decide if a UV filter or hood is better option for travel.
Frank Davis Posted October 18, 2014 Share #6 Posted October 18, 2014 The hood with the supplied cap is a winner! Put it on and leave it on. The cap is more like a lid with a snug twist slide on/off that all lens hoods should have. The hand grip has worked out better for me than the half-case for handling comfort. Leica leather camera strap for M or X is safe, comfortable and will not scratch or mar the XV. It has all come together to make the XV my go to camera for a lot of my shooting. papimuzo Posted October 26, 2014 Share #9 Posted October 26, 2014 Essentially UV filter and the handgrip. On some occasion an optical viewfinder (50 or 28 mm) Thanks Rjans!!! Of course, me too forgot to mention the electronic viewfinder (Olympus VF2) which is quasi allways used. When I said the use of optical ones, it is in cases where the form factor was not desirable. XVarior Posted October 26, 2014 Share #10 Posted October 26, 2014 Wondering what accessories folks use with their XV. For example:Case vs Grip Hood vs Filter Just curious on feedback on what works for folks. Thanks. Case vs Grip: Case. reason is much prettier, lighter. beautiful indeed. Hood for Filter: Hood. reason is I didn't found a filter at the time of the purchase, so I opted for the hood and never felt the need to get a filter anymore, it's a perfect protector. I also added the EVF and that's all I carry along with a second battery that I never had to use in one day of shooting, but bought as a backup. asiafish Posted October 26, 2014 Share #12 Posted October 26, 2014 I prefer the protector (Half Case) to the grip, mainly for looks, but I also like the soft feel of the leather. EVF is essential, it makes the camera an absolute joy to use.
RickP Posted October 26, 2014 Share #13 Posted October 26, 2014 I agree .. I have the grip, but do not use it . I prefer just the half case.. I too like the looks and feel of leather. Rick

shinglj Posted October 31, 2014 Share #15 Posted October 31, 2014 Although I have not used one I do hear that the Chinese XV lens hoods offered on ebay do cause vignetting right in the corners when the lens is used at 28mm. I have the ridiculously expensive genuine Leica hood which does not cause vignetting when used on its own but with a UV filter with the hood attached there is annoying, and to me unacceptable, vignetting. I have heard that Cokin have recently introduced a slimline UV filter-I am not sure if it is the XV size yet but this may solve the problem. Rich Paul Posted October 31, 2014 Share #16 Posted October 31, 2014 I bought the Leica EVF, the grip, finger loop, and the metal lens shade with a metal lens cap. I love the camera. The images I get never cease to surprise me.
shinglj Posted October 31, 2014 Share #17 Posted October 31, 2014 Although it should be obvious I should have probably said in the above response that the vignetting with the genuine Leica hood and filter only occurs with the zoom at 28mm. Phil75 Posted November 3, 2014 Share #18 Posted November 3, 2014 I have a B+W F-Pro filter on my XV plus the Leica half case, which I consider fairly good and makes a handgrip obsolete. At first I wanted to add a lens shade but after reading about possible vignetting haven´t bought any, and I don´t regret it as I have not became aware of flares etc.
