I feel sorry with the French customers, which may take photos with proper patriotic spirit and this new "Edition Moncler" only in portrait mode.;)

And even more the Dutch, they must certainly photograph in handstand...:D

Moncler and Leica's monumental collaboration

Leica & Moncler

I quite like the sound of the new X 113 (not the stripy Moncler version) but I can't stand EVFs. Shame because I use a 35mm lens most of the time and this camera is probably as good as my M9P and 35 Summilux for less than 20% of what I originally paid.

But at the time you bought your M9-P and Summilux, the X113 did not exist at any price. And depending on how you measure image quality, and your subject matter and shooting situations, the X113 might not be the same as your M9-P.

When I compare my M9 and Voigtlander 35/1.4 with my Fuji X100, the Leica/Voigtlander combination renders in a way that the X100 simply can't reproduce. Extra subtleties of colour gradation from the M9 simply aren't there with the X100, nor is it as sharp, due to the AA filter. Nor is the depth of field as shallow, obviously. But the X100 beats it in high ISO performance, the ease of autofocus, the ability to frame with either LCD or VF, and to go from a VF to an EVF in the same body. The X113 will have those kinds of advantages over the M9.

Right now, I'm looking at photos that I took of a friend who has just passed away. Of all the cameras I used, the M9 and 35/1.4 drew in the most subtle and artistic way, and if anything, I regret not taking more photos of him with that combination. But I am glad to have what I have.

Of course, I don't regret buying either the M9P or 35 Summilux – I was just putting the costs in perspective with regard to what we have available now. I'd still pay the extra today for the M system option because I have no desire to use an EVF of any flavour (I've tried the one for the T and I thought it was an awful way to compose and focus a camera).

I used to think that way about EVFs but they have kind of grown on me

I am not trying to convert you ;)

I like:

1. The accuracy of framing

2. Super-imposed information which in most cameras is configurable

3. Safety when shooting into the sun, which I do from time to time

4. Enhancement of dark scenes (albeit with noise)

5. Zoom mode and focus peaking in EVF

6. Spirit level

I don't like:

7. Lag. Which is usually more apparent at night

8. Not seeing outside the frame, only really provided by RF or X100/x-pro VFs anyway

On my A7S I don't miss a VF at all, in fact prefer the EVF to, say, the D800E. However the one on the M is not the latest and it has to compete with the RF which it can't do.

On the T I prefer using the LCD and touch focus which is terrific, albeit it needs a different mind set. I find the EVF very good, but perhaps I am just used to them now.

I did try a S out last week and well that's an optical VF that's something nice to have :D (not sure my bank manager would agree but I am working on him!!)

If you don`t like a Moncler, how about a 24K Nikon Df for Christmas? Gold prices have come down a lot, imagine your investment if they appreciated again.

LUX NIKON KIT FINISHED IN 24K YELLOW GOLD - Brikk | Lux iPhone 6 now available in yellow gold, pink gold and platinum with diamond options

Ouch!

The proliferation of these special editions must mean that someone is buying them.

Good luck to them. I wish I could afford a camera just for the mantelpiece ...
