microview Posted September 23, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted September 23, 2014 (edited) This review is rather more specific about distances and aperture limitations: where Jonathan Slack just says, in his very nice piece, 'The lens focuses right down to 20cm, although the maximum aperture is reduced to f2.8 at the closest focus distance to ensure the best image quality'. It seems you have to be 1.8m away before f1.7 comes into play, so you couldn't for example have a flower in sharp focus and its surroundings blurred. In spite of that it is a very tempting proposition given its weight compared to the M(240) and proper handling size and settings interface compared to the Sony RX1/1r! EDIT 'you couldn't for example have a flower in sharp focus and its surroundings blurred.' Some of JS's Anna-Louisa pictures on his web page suggest the opposite, I now see! fotofoto Posted September 24, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 24, 2014 "It seems you have to be 1.8m away before f1.7 comes into play" Hi there Thats the little downside of this fantastic camera. But as I checked, I could get the minimal distance for 1.7 aperture at around 1.20 m. Best

I think you'd be fine for DOF. At 70 cm the "official" sharp zone would be 4 cm @ 2.8, make it 6 cm for digital but your background will still be totally blurred.
tom0511 Posted September 24, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 24, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think f2.8 is not so bad, from my experienc with the X2.
Eastgreenlander Posted September 26, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 26, 2014 I was worried about focus speed but this review seems to put it up there with fujifilm x100s. Im quite surprised if that is the case. Jono writes in his review that it is no "speed demon" in regards to auto focus. I would like to see more reviews before I pull the trigger, my main concern being auto focus speed and responsiveness. I would like to see a comparison between this new Leica X and Sony rx1 or simply a YouTube video showing autofocus speed.
