wda Posted July 24, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 24, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just noticed that a Scottish dealer has the X Vario on special offer for £1499, significantly less than list price. This will not please those who have recently bought the model. Is the writing on the wall? If so, why such a relatively short life for the camera which is barely into its second year of production? Also, if true, why no firmware updates despite prods, from many users?
Advertisement Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Hi wda, Take a look here Bargain price for X Vario. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
colonel Posted July 24, 2014 Share #2 Posted July 24, 2014 not sure that one can conclude a shelf life issue but one could conclude somewhat a leveling of price Its certainly greatly attractive at this price as a quiet and light walk about To be honest it tempts me into getting a silver one ...

firoze Posted July 27, 2014 Share #4 Posted July 27, 2014 I was told by Leica NJ last week that a firmware update for the X Vario is in the works. There will be a great many happy souls when Leica finally does release an firmware update for the XV Fingers crossed that the update does indeed address the main issues... shree108 Posted August 3, 2014 Share #10 Posted August 3, 2014 I bought mine in United States for $1780 which is about £1060. Got it on Amazon.com under "Like New" with a two-year warranty. When I got the X vario the only thing missing in the box was the neck strap. There were no scratches on the camera, lens or anything else. Such a quality feel to the camera and great photos. I'll be posting some soon.

Einst_Stein Posted December 27, 2014 Share #12 Posted December 27, 2014 If I were Leica, I would discontinue X Vario and reduce the T + 18~55mm kit price to replace it.
thighslapper Posted December 27, 2014 Share #13 Posted December 27, 2014 Sorry ...... but I have to disagree ..... the XV produces better images than the T and the Zoom lens is better ..... plus focusses much closer for macro shots. Ergonomically it is also a better design in many areas. The ONLY advantage of the T is the ability to use M series lenses.... plus the touch screen .... if you like that sort of thing. I have both ...... I use the T as an M240 back-up when I take out a load of gear .... and the XV as a solo camera when I want to travel light. Images are as good as my old M9 photos. I am very attached to my XV ..... and you will find few people who actually have one that have a bad word to say about it. As someone with an MM, M-P, T and XV .... and have used them all extensively .... I would NOT write off the XV quite yet .......
Einst_Stein Posted December 27, 2014 Share #14 Posted December 27, 2014 You are picking minor details. If I were Leica, there is nothing in X Vario that I cannot match in T kit if it makes sense. The only thing I cannot match is things like Dlux 109, which is in another quality/price/size point. -- it meant to be a cheaper, smaller, and lower grade product point. papimuzo Posted December 28, 2014 Share #15 Posted December 28, 2014 [...............]The ONLY advantage of the T is the ability to use M series lenses....[..............] I have both ....... I second that entirely. Happy pictures and New Year to all of you.
colonel Posted December 28, 2014 Share #16 Posted December 28, 2014 I'm afraid I agree. The XV images are better then the T with zoom and I have no idea why but it might be that the XV lens is a proper Leica made in Germany and the T lens is slightly cheaper made by a third party. Complete speculation of course.

The XV images are better then the T with zoom and I have no idea why but it might be that the XV lens is a proper Leica made in Germany and the T lens is slightly cheaper made by a third party. Complete speculation of course. More likely than where it is made, its probably because the XV lens has less of a focal length spread and is slightly slower. It is obvious that the XV lens is one exceptional piece of glass, specifically limited to 46mm at the long end and its very conservative maximum aperture all in the name of incredible optical quality. Peter Karbe himself rather proudly proclaims that the XV lens matches the APO Summicron 50 for quality, and makes no such claims about the longer reaching and faster zoom for the T system. Don't forget that the 'T' can also be used with just about any legacy manual focus lens. I have adaptors to use Canon FD, Nikon, Minolta, and Leica R and their potential for 'T' use was the main reason for purchasing the camera. dunk
