Will the new Type 113 be a replacement for the X2 or rather for the X Vario? Best Thomas Edited April 27, 2014 by Kloss

colonel Posted April 28, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 28, 2014 I would expect Leica to keep the X series for traditionalists who like dials and buttons and just the T for the iPhone generation But let's see

IMHO the touch menu is much quicker than digging into settings. Although physical buttons are more intuitive to use while composing through the EVF.

Archiver Posted April 30, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 30, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I vote yes for unibody construction. It's an idea that's time has come, especially for a luxury high end compact camera.
Kloss Posted April 30, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted April 30, 2014 My guess is a replacement for the X2 since the X2 is two years old already while the X Vario is on the market for ca. 9 months isn`t it? My second guess is a traditional construction (as of X2) without a touchscreen but with buttons and a faster lens (f 2.0) any maybe with a new EVF (same as the Visoflex of the T) and WiFi (as can be used in the Leica C as well). The T with it`s unibody construction and touchscreen seems to be for the "new generation" of Leica customers while the X Series will be for the traditionalists
TW528 Posted May 1, 2014 Share #9 Posted May 1, 2014 Unibody construction describes how it's made not how it looks it's just that the T series happened to be the first. It could still look like a traditional X series camera while being made from a single block of aluminum. It's up to Leica but I'm hoping they keep the X series design. I'm a little worried they may be taking the X series downmarket though, now that the T series kind of takes its place price wise in the lineup. The Leica C is Type 112 so what (if anything) does only a one digit increase mean given how different the C and X series are? Then again, maybe there is no reasoning behind these numbers as the X Vario was 107 while the T was the reverse of that at 701.

I don't think we're in any danger of a 'downmarket' anything from Leica. They are pushing themselves more and more as a luxury brand, with prices and build quality to match. If anything, they will go upwards. The X series will most likely remain their fixed-lens range, with the T occupying another range and market altogether. As for price, remember that the T is under $2000 for body only, and that lenses are upwards of $1700 each. That's more than the X Vario. Kloss Posted September 14, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted September 14, 2014 Any news available? Will the new X (Typ 113) be a replacement for the X2, for X Vario or rather for both (since the X Vario is being offered with a huge discount in several countries and might discontinued?)? wda Posted September 14, 2014 Share #12 Posted September 14, 2014 If your hunch is right, not long to wait for news from Photokina 2014. It would be unprecedented for Leica to terminate a model after 15 months in the market. Possible, yes. Disappointing, definitely. Whatever happens, my satisfaction remains undimmed. colonel Posted September 15, 2014 Share #13 Posted September 15, 2014 Replacement for X3. Vario line will stay. Leica will most likely tweak it for the version
