mjh Posted April 1, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 1, 2014 Sounds like April's fool..! Why? It wasn’t even posted on 1 April. And the registration of the X (Typ 113) at the Korean Radio Research Agency is dated 28 March 2014, see 라이카카메라코리아㈜ | Digital Camera 인증현황. The X1 was replaced 28 months after its introduction; extrapolating from that the X2 would be due for replacement around September 2014. Kyros Moutsouris Posted April 1, 2014 Share #5 Posted April 1, 2014 Leicas have nothing to do with radio research. Common sense.
CalArts 99 Posted April 1, 2014 Share #6 Posted April 1, 2014 If it's being registered at the Korean RRA for certification, then doesn't that suggest it will have Wi-Fi enabled?
mjh Posted April 1, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 1, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leicas have nothing to do with radio research. Common sense. I can only suppose you have no idea what the RRA is and what it does. This is the kind of registration you need when your camera has a WiFi module, for example (see Conformity Assessment System >Introduction for conformity Assessment System), and you intend to sell your camera in, among other countries, South Korea. Remember how a similar registration record (that time in Taiwan) was the first hint at a forthcoming T (Typ 701)?
mjh Posted April 1, 2014 Share #8 Posted April 1, 2014 If it's being registered at the Korean RRA for certification, then doesn't that suggest it will have Wi-Fi enabled? It appears to be the most likely explanation, but then again there is another registration record from the same day – for a Braun shaver. I don’t believe Braun plans to introduce a Wi-Fi-equipped shaver.

Remember how a similar registration record (that time in Taiwan) was the first hint at a forthcoming T (Typ 701)? True story: the English and Korean RRA websites have so different layouts (at least on my mobile) so I was assuming that the first link was fake. On the other hand I clearly don't understand why Leica would bother so much to fit an X with wireless capabilities. Is it targeting the Playmemories audience? mjh Posted April 1, 2014 Share #10 Posted April 1, 2014 A large percentage of cameras introduced in the past few months sport Wi-Fi capabilities; this is fast becoming the rule rather than the exception.

calithumpian Posted April 1, 2014 Share #12 Posted April 1, 2014 I have been looking back over previous registrations for Leica cameras with the RRA and it doesn't seem to be confined to those with Wi-Fi capabilities. The Leica C appeared on RRA less than a month before launch last year, the Leica T in October last year. The X Vario appeared 3 months before release. Does this open up possibility for a new Leica X Typ 113 release later this month at the Berlin event on the 24th? The Leica X would presumably replace the X2 dropping the numeric like the M series, with the X Vario remaining in the line being only 9 months since its release. Another interesting find is a registration with RRA from February 2014 for a Leica Visoflex Typ 020, possibly a higher resolution (2360k dot) EVF a la Olympus VF-4? Hopefully this is accompanied by firmware updates allowing current X and M owners to utilise the higher resolution EVF, as well as the cheaper Olympus offering. jaapv Posted April 2, 2014 Share #13 Posted April 2, 2014 Leica has a history of introducing more than one camera at an event. The Monochrom introduction party was the baptism of the X2 and M9Hermes as well.
mjh Posted April 2, 2014 Share #14 Posted April 2, 2014 By now I have heard rumors about an S, X, T, and possibly M announced later this month (plus new lenses or whatever). And that’s just April; what will they do during the rest of the year? Will there be anything left to announce at photokina?

mjh Posted April 3, 2014 Share #18 Posted April 3, 2014 Announce now, availability in photokina? I don’t think so. As far as I know, the 24 April announcement is about products that will actually be available around that time. photokina is different; the date is fixed and products introduced then may still take some time before they reach the market.

timd. Posted April 4, 2014 Share #20 Posted April 4, 2014 can't see anything related to the part of the new camera shown in the official anouncement. there is no space for an x-style flash.
