What is your dream for the next Leica X?First question: Is it going to be a replacement for X1? Second question: Is it going to be an additional camera besides X1? My answer (my dream): I would like to keep my X1 and I don't want a replacement but an additional X (X2?) My future camera is exactly like X1 but wider lens like 24 or 28 mm (35mm eq.) with f:2.0 lens. If it will be faster, it is desirable of course. But an X with the above lens would be my dream and it will be an additional camera besides my existing X1. Regards, huzel

X2 should be either a camera with a built-in zoom -- range 24-90, about the same as the D-Lux 5, OR (better) -- an EVIL camera with a whole range of new exciting lenses as well as catering for M lenses. It won't replace the superlative M9 though! Don't care about video, but a new 2X camera must have the same easy-to-use manual controls with a real shutter speed dial and aperture ring. Possibly even a manual ISO and white balance dial.

I posted this before, but what differentiates the X1 from competition is its small size and low weight. There is no other jacket/coat pocketable camera which produces comparable file quality.
So for me the X2 should keep its form factor and design and have the following changes: 1. Summarit or Summicron lens, 40mm equivalent 2. pop up optical VF with electronic layer of basic info, AF confirm and under/overexposure warning (replace pop up flash with pop up VF) 3. faster AF 4. larger buffer 5. faster start up and shut down 6. better lcd screen 7. dedicated iso wheel 8. MF ring on lens barrel |

I think I could live with that specification! The viewfinder is the really tricky part. I wouldn't want it to be less bright and clear than the current Leica VF and usable with spectacles. The viewfinder could replace the flash, if necessary.

Having already spent a lot of money for the x1 which is making its job well enough (if I forget the dust on sensor problem) I will not spend money on a x2, thinking of it as a similar improved camera. If the limits of the x1 are too tight to me I'll would go for an m9 or a dslr (I know this is horror for many of us, please forgive me!). Just my idea.

I think it actually should replace the flash, this would allow to keep the camera's current form factor and differentiate it from the Fuji X100 and the likes.

Don't waste your life thinking of what could or might arrive... go out and use the current X1 to it's fullest...

Hi all, My first post here.
I've just bought an X1. I'm in love with it. It's close to the perfect "pocket camera" for me. For an X2 I would like an f2 or f1.8 lens. Faster AF. more high ISO performance would be a bonus. If I was to get all my wishes fulfilled then it would be small enough to fit in a pocket and be tougher build. But I really am happy with the X1 I just bought so any of these would be a bonus I'd be happy with this one for a couple years still! |

Just for the pleasure of discussion the only improvement I can imagine is to have same camera, more exactly same body (size is crucial for my taste) with 2 interchangeable lenses: not many, it would be enough the 36 equivalent (as we have now) plus a medium tele, 75 equivalent. This would cover 90 % of my photo needs. IQ, autofocus, high iso capacities are enough as they are (I know, improvements are welcome anyway but only if the size will not increase). Just my two cents.
robert PS: maybe the "friends" in Solms could study an adjunctive for the ctual lens to transform it in a medium tele ? of course high quality and a cost...

If I can choose the specs I would like a noctilux in it, but the size should even be smaller.
Any improvements made to specs at the expense of increased size will make me shun it. I bought the X1 as a pocketable (just) camera and I would like it to stay portable. CJ |

My ideal X2.
Fixed non retractible f2 35mm lens to avoid the dust ingestion my x1 suffered after just a few months. Filter thread. No flash - hot shoe only camera or bundled with flash. I don't like the current X1 flash - feels flimsy. Mine has been okay but read a few complaints on the forums from people who have flashes that won't stay down thus I worry about mine! Built in optical finder. John |

I feel like this horse has been beaten to death on this forum. Resurrected by some weird strand of German voodoo and we're beating it to death (and then some more) again. But more what it's worth, I'll bite this time.
(Background: I had the X1 when it first came out - late 2009 to about late late 2010 when I sold it. I LOVED the images I could make with the camera, but certain "characteristics" of the camera made it difficult for me to work with. I will buy an X2, if it satisfies the following ![]() 1) Improved AF. And I mean, significantly improved AF. 2) Smaller. I really think it needs to be more simliar to the Ricoh GRD is size for it to fit into my camera collection without too much overlap. 3) Different focal lengths. If the X2 came with options like 28mm and 50mm fixed. That would be VERY interesting. 4) FASTER AF in low light. What good is ISO1600 if you can barely use the AF? 5) Focusing ring for manual focus. Something like what the Canon S90/S95 has. That would be very swell. - But really it's all about size and AF speed. |

I'd like a Leica to compete with the new Fuji X-Pro at a "reasonable" price premium for
the red dot. Large sensor, viewfinder, autofocus, high ISO, interchangeable lens. Think digital CL with 28-40-90 summicrons, even if new lenses with new mount. |

Well, Leica did promise "at least APS-C" sized camera with several lenses to be announced at Photokina 2012. I think it will directly compete with the Fuji X-Pro1 (and will have a hard time if Fuji will get this camera right - the lens road map looks great)
