brill64 Posted March 1, 2015 Share #3 Posted March 1, 2015 many arguments for & against built-in evf's have already been made ad infinitum on this forum long before introduction of any of these cameras & personally speaking, i doubt very much that it indicates Leica are at any kind of design crisis crossroads or hiatus. having happily owned &/or used X, X-Vario & now the T extensively, I honestly haven't once wondered why they omitted a built-in evf or felt they even needed one. for example, if a few pixels die, the whole unit has to be sent in for repair as against an accessory. whilst it seems a logical step to omit & interchange the same evf between X2, X-Vario & M, i rarely used but liked having it in my kit as an accessory. with any new product there's always for & against arguments flying around & having said the above, you're possibly not wrong either. maybe we're just forgetful sometimes that differing opinions like ours help to evolve niche markets only & not every product needs to follow a fixed series of stick-in-the-mud design rules. perhaps that's what sets it apart? in my mind, the T certainly hasn't lost it's way. Mike Rawcs Posted March 1, 2015 Share #4 Posted March 1, 2015 I don't agree that the M will always be top of the tree and I'm hoping that the T will allow Leica to move forward from the M design. Having an APS-C sensor allows Leica to produce cameras with different design specifications to suit different needs (e.g. professional and amateur) but all sharing the same T lens mount. There is no reason why models with and without a built-in EVF can't exist simultaneously. I'm sure that Leica will continue to surprise us with innovative design and class-leading lenses. bencoyote Posted March 2, 2015 Share #8 Posted March 2, 2015 I think that Leica knew very well what they were doing with the T and I think the idea that they will move the X control system to the T mount is unlikely. Consider the German accented fellow who presented How to tackle the collapsing camera market (video) | Photo Rumors given his business analysis the T seems like the right design.
bernie.lcf Posted March 5, 2015 Share #9 Posted March 5, 2015 Well, the X controls are not exactly well suited for interchangeable lenses. The aperture dial on top is a problem as its labeling is not changeable. An X style aperture dial without labels, on the other hand, is what we have on the T today. What else is there? Shutter speed dial - sure. I think I may have never actually moved that away from "A" on any of my cameras in the last 25 years... However, the T-mount is fully electronic (of course) and therefore it would be possible to at least to design a lens with a built in aperture ring. I'd be pretty happy about that. The touch screen does not bother me because unlike all the other implementations on the market the Leica T version is actually usable and makes sense. It does not make sense to have a regular user interface (menus) and just make the screen touchable - see Olympus, Panasonic and all others. This is exactly what happened with Apple iPhone vs. Nokia and Nokia's pathetic touch screen implementation on Symbian as a reaction to the first iPhone. We all know where Nokia is today. They went from market leader to near - death resulting in acquisition by Microsoft.
