Wake up and activate the shutter

With firmware 1.3 has anyone worked out a system for shooting from the hip with the Leica T. They have done a good job speeding things up with firmware 1.3 but sometimes I still feel like it is too slow.

To speed up shooting so that I can get those quick grab shots, I have the aperture pre-set to something like zone focusing with a wide DOF and I am using MF at my expected target depth so the camera doesn't have to hunt and find the right thing to focus on and find the focus and I would like the camera to wake up and activate the shutter right now damn it.

The fastest, that I can seem to get the Leica T to activate the shutter after it went to sleep is about 4s. Is there a combination of settings that anyone has figured out that can get that any faster? Or should I go back to Leica and say "nice job with firmware 1.3 but I need better"

With these kinds of grab shots, I really don't need live view or the screen to frame a shot I'm just kind of pointing the camera and hitting the shutter.

Other than keepng the camera awake all the time, does anybody have any other ideas?

Replying to my own question. I've been playing with the camera trying to observe carefully what the camera does to see if I can figure out how to make this work. I think it is going to take a firmware change but I think that it can be done.

First of all, live view seems to put the aperture fully open. You can hear this if you listen to the lens very carefully. If the camera is in A or M mode before it goes to sleep, reset the aperture in the lens to the current setting from the fully wide mode needed for live view. The focus seems to already stay at what it was.

Then very early in the wakeup procedure before the camera, resets the lens to live view mode, before it turns on the screen, If the camera is in MF mode and the shutter is fully depressed, then have the camera just activate the shutter with the current exposure settings.

That way you can do zone focusing, and set the exposure to the light and you have already. You don't need a screen because you either have already composed the shot and are waiting for the exact moment to click the shutter or are shooting from the hip and you are just pointing the camera in the right general direction. In those cases you don't want to worry if the camera has gone to sleep. You just want the camera to activate the shutter so that you can grab that decisive moment.

So my suggestion to leica is:

In the sleep procedure: if the camera is in A or M mode, command the lens to the correct aperture and leave it there.

In the wakeup procedure: Before it initializes the screen or the UI or resets the lens positions to go into live view mode, If the camera is in MF mode & if the shutter is fully depressed, just setup the sensor for taking a picture and activate the shutter with the last exposure settings.

Then go back and initialize the screen, the SD card, and go back and put everything into live view mode. At that point, I don't mind waiting the rest of the 4s for the camera to wake up.
