firststream Posted July 26, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 26, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Everyone, My T is arriving imminently to the Toronto Leica dealer (Vistek). I haven't purchased a memory card in over 6 years, and am wondering if anyone has a recommended type and model? My preference is for the SanDisk - I'm used to them - but by all means if there is something better, please do tell. I don't expect to use the video function, so let that sway your thoughts. Also, could I find out from any of you how many images to expect per Gigabyte of memory? The DNG/JPeg combo makes it difficult to estimate. Thanks in advance. Advertisement Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Hi firststream, Take a look here T Memory Card Preferences?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wonner Posted July 27, 2014 Share #2 Posted July 27, 2014 I have also had good results with Sandisk cards. I have been using a Sandisk Ultra SDXC 64GB for almost 2 months in my T with excellent results. It is rated at 30MB/s so it should also be suitable for video if needed. Regards. barjohn Posted July 27, 2014 Share #4 Posted July 27, 2014 I use the 95mb/s 8gb and 32gb and they both work fine.
Vern Dewit Posted July 27, 2014 Share #5 Posted July 27, 2014 Hi Everyone, My T is arriving imminently to the Toronto Leica dealer (Vistek)... Jeff Hey! You're the guy who got the other one! They only got two and you and I are the two lucky Canadians. I picked mine up in Calgary on Friday afternoon. Loving it so far. All quirks were expected so no huge surprises yet.
Jimmykjimmy Posted July 27, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 27, 2014 I upgraded to the San Disk Extreme Pro. 95mps. The faster the better with this camera.

pilot-kurt Posted July 28, 2014 Share #8 Posted July 28, 2014 I'm using Hoodman 32GB Raw Steel card which is UHS-1 spec, very rugged and waterproof: 32GB STEEL UHS-1 CARD-Hoodman Corporation Seems to work well and is faster than internal memory. firststream Posted July 28, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted July 28, 2014 @Barjohn - Thanks, and thanks also for all the balanced, insightful comments you've made in your rolling T- review. Your efforts were instrumental in my purchasing decision. @Vern - I ordered the T from Vistek Toronto 6 weeks ago, and was told then that I was #5 on the wait-list. Now I'm at the front of the line, but my T hasn't yet arrived. All the best with your T! @Jimmy - Speed seems to be essential with the T and memory card consideration. I think I will upgrade to the Pro card. 900 pictures on a 32G? Ha! - my 2GB Extreme III from 6 years ago gave me 190 images out of the M8. My eyes and my shutter finger will have a battle filling the new card. @Pilot-Kurt - Jono mentioned the other day that the internal memory is slower than a separate card, which is the reason I began this inquiry. It seems Vistek carries primarily the San Disk and Acumen cards, but thanks for your input nevertheless. Regards, Jeff

Regards, Jeff HI Jeff I'm still waiting for my camera (working with a prototype), so it's possible that the internal memory was faster with the shipping cameras. I'm using 95ms SanDisk - it certainly seems to be faster with faster cards.
firststream Posted July 29, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted July 29, 2014 Hi Jono! I have to also thank you for doing yeoman's work with your T reviews and on-going experiences. Hmmm, I hope you don't have to hand back the prototype. If Erwin Puts and Ming Thein are correct in their belief that the T is a game-changing camera, I don't think it could be wrested from even my cold, dead fingers...slow memory or not!

Guest badbob Posted August 5, 2014 Share #13 Posted August 5, 2014 ....If Erwin Puts and Ming Thein are correct in their belief that the T is a game-changing camera, I don't think it could be wrested from even my cold, dead fingers...slow memory or not! I see it as an upgrade to the X Vario, having changeable lenses. The UI design isn't as good or as iPhone-like as I hoped for, so I don't see the game-changing aspect of it, as yet anyway. One thing I really like in the image playback is double-tapping on an area of interest and the zoomed view centers on that part of the image. I haven't had good luck un-zooming yet - that's been difficult. A very important feature Leica could add that Panasonic did on one of their cameras is "containers" for burst shots, so I can skip from burst to burst without having to go to multi-image playback. Well, maybe game 'changing' rather than game 'changed' A very important feature Leica could add that Panasonic did on one of their cameras is "containers" for burst shots, so I can skip from burst to burst without having to go to multi-image playback. The difficulty is that if you add one person's 'very important feature' then you have to add everybody's 'very important feature' . . . and lo and behold - you have a huge, bloated and confusing interface just like pretty much every other digital camera. firststream Posted August 26, 2014 Author Share #16 Posted August 26, 2014 I've had the camera for just under a month, and am very, very impressed with it. The SanDisk Extreme Pro (32GB) is being used, thanks to all of the insights everyone has given me in this thread. The touch-screen user interface is remarkable...although this is said by someone who has never used an iPhone. "My Camera" efficiency gets to pertinent user options immediately, and makes me wonder why nobody thought of this before. I detest the downward swipe for review, not so much for the fingerprints it leaves, but because sometimes the swiping needs to be repeated. (I wonder how the Canadian winter will effect that?) Scrolling through images is more decisive when using the left wheel, and I hope the next update includes an option to use the video button to get to review with greater conviction than the screen swipe. It seems like many of us are figuring out what else the video button can be used for; I hope it can be turned into a feature out of which many options can be chosen. As to the game-changing notion, composing-by-Liveview is a real treat and is as unique (to me) as is the rangefinder approach of viewing both what is in and outside of the framelines. In a way, it's beginning to allow me to compose by structure, instead of by elements...if that makes any sense. The learning curve is being ridden on this aspect of the T - changing, not changed! Finally, for someone who uses flash more often than not, it was a genuine thrill to discover tethered strobes can sync up to 1/320s. The downside is that the strobe has no cut-off speed, so be warned. All in all, I'm exceedingly pleased with the camera and its performance. Cheers!
