ok, so I have to take the lens off each time I take the case off

and I have to take the case off to take out the SD card or battery or charge via usb

therefore I have to take the lens off to change the SD card

:eek::eek::eek:

disappointing .... back to a leather protector .....

Does it really need a protector? I haven't seen one in the flesh yet.

I have one on all my cameras except my RX100M2

Sometimes I will put the camera down on a rough surface, like a brick wall, to take a long exposure and I like to keep the cameras scratch free

I know others who intentionally like scratched and worn look cameras ... its all personal ;)

Now think about the nice attractive grey leather Leica T protector.

Another flawed design. :(

1. No tripod bush

2. Have to take it off to change battery or remove the SD card (not unusual I admit).

3. Except that to take it off you have to use a screwdriver on the flush fitting screw that attaches it to the camera's tripod bush. Now perhaps in some country a small coin fits the slot, but really ..... !

Whoever designed this and some of the other accessories?

good info thanks

In terms of the tripod screw can you take it out of the case and just put it on without and will it hold up ?

I am used to taking off leather protectors for access to SD cards and batteries, although if Gariz produce one they could be a good option as they have thoughtful designers which have SD card access and battery access and very good quality ...

I think the t-snap could be so useful if they had simply left the SD card door free, as you can also charge the T via USB and the USB socket is also under the battery door. Then I would never need to have taken the case off

Not only do you have to take the lens off to get the skin off (to access the battery), but I have heard it's a very tight fit, so it's not easy to do.

I am still waiting for one to come in, but am reconsidering it.

Is the door accessible with the skin (Snap) on? At least then, you could charge the camera via USB.

No it's not

Otherwise it would be useful :(

Plus it's difficult to get on and off. It has no gel or soft plastic (except the grip surface) like some adverts say. Not only does it hurt my fingers I am very conscious I might scratch or chip the camera in the process.

On the positive side it does look great when on :)

Thanks for the info Colonel. I too thought it was made of silicone like the strap and would therefore be more flexible/bendable to install and remove.

Yes, it is very sharp looking! What color did you get?

Too bad you can't transfer DNG's via wifi either.

One really does need access to the battery and door pretty often I would imagine.

Hmmmm....

Black

I think I will swap it for the leather half case

I wonder if this is a consequence of having a car company design a camera?? (sorry Audi!)

I still love my T!

The camera is super. A real beauty.

Audi are great for the bodies, not the leather seats :D

It's not the first time leica accessories were not great, for the M8 and M9 the cases were all rubbish.

The XV and M240 have, surprisingly, a great half leather case from Leica and the Leica carry bag for the X series and the new one for the T is very nice.

I am going to check out the holster. I hear it also has ergonomic issues, style over substance, but it looks great as long as the cops don't think you are carrying a gun!

and hopefully Gariz will support the T ...

Looks are indeed great but what a disappointment in use. It not only is very hard to put on or to remove, but you have to do this every time to acces the SD card or USB port or to replace the battery. On top of that I did not figure out yet how to remove or put on the T snap without detaching the strap (left side)

So every time you need to charge the battery you need to do the following :

- search for the "pin" to detach the strap (where do you guys put the pin so that it is always with you and does not get lost )

- detach the strap left side

- detach the lens

- try to remove the T-snap (good luck to do that in less than half a minute)

- put the lens on or a body cap to prevent dust on the sensor while charging

- remove, recharge battery and replace

- detach lens again or body cap

- put the T snap back on

- attach the strap left side

- mount the lens

And then some DSLR guys find that replacing a battery on an M is over complicated because you have to remove the baseplate every time

I so agree.

The T-Snap is a joke and M users will long for the minor inconvenience of removing the base-plate to change either the battery or the SD card. It's a long process with the T and how quickly will you lose the tool for removing the strap (a bit like an Apple SIM insertion tool)?

Leica have really not thought it through. Same goes for the T-Flap which requires the EVF to be removed and hangs uselessly like an old ERC while in use.

Then we come to the strap. The normal strap is a bit short for me but nicely stretchy. Cue the adjustable straps which use metal fasteners to set the length. Memories of the lovely M strap with a wide shoulder pad and metal fasteners all ready to scratch the camera. I notice they have now been replaced by plastic fasteners, how is that lesson lost on the T-crowd?

I'm afraid it's a case of some designer forgetting to check out actual use. I picked up my T today and came away with just the M to T adapter and the EVF. I'll probably buy a wrist strap but the rest of it seems more form than function.

I bought the leather half case (18800).

It looks a bit worn in real life so is quite nice

There is a screw which connects it to the tripod slot but I took it out. Now it just slides on and off. Not terribly secure but fine when holding the camera

I hope Gariz come up a T case soon as their designs are excellent

TBH, I'm surprised Maike Harberts, who is very smart and hands-on, let this one through. That said, my experience of industrial designers is that they a precious bunch who don't like being told home truths where their designs are concerned.

I suspect the accessories are outsourced to some design nuts at Audi who never use the camera. The Camera however is quite carefully designed by Leica. I think this mismatch should be addressed by Leica

I remember the M8 and M9 accessories were so poor (half case, neverready case, etc.) I became hopeful as the XV and M240 half case is quite well designed. It seems that they let the ball drop on the T accessories.

Saying that the half leather case is quite nice for the silver T
