Which Telephoto - Hasse or Contax?

Colleagues,

 

This topic may have been covered before, but I am new to the S forum and looking for some direct input. I just recently obtained an S and am set with studio and wide angle lenses. However, I would like to obtain a lens in the 200-300mm (effective) range for outdoor nature use. I know that both Hasse and Contax are candidates with the new adapters. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Contax seems the best way to go. I have not purchased one, but the combination of a used 350mm for about $4,000 and a Contax to S mount for $1,995 gets you a very nice AF tele for $6,000. A 350 S was discussed when the S2 was introduced, but we have not heard any since. Frankly I am waiting for the S which will probably run $10,000 new.

I haven't used one, but the MTF curves on the Contax Zeiss 350 scare me off. There is no great answer, although I (and many others) wish there were.

More choice in manual focus, Mamiya, Pentax and Hasselblad C...

The HC is also cheaper and lighter than the contax.
