It's surprisingly compact on the M240 with M-R and in my opinion seemed more compact even with the M/R adaptor than its sister lens the 90/2 APO-Summicron-M asph. lct Posted August 17, 2014 Share #7 Posted August 17, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Being apparently the same lens i would have thought that the length of the apo-R + adapter is roughly (or perhaps exactly) the same as that of the apo-M alone but i don't own the former so i rely on you my friend. The R at 700 grams is almost 200 grams heavier than my v3 German M 75, which is 520 grams, but the former feels better in hand because it's fatter and has more even weight distribution--less front heavy. Actually the R 80 is probably my favorite lens as an object to hold and, alas, fondle! The added articulation of an adapter also makes the lens seem more compact--your eye associates the adapter with the camera, not the lens. If I were to get the M version again I'd pick the first version without built-in hood. Having had the APO M 90, pre-APO M 90 v3, and R90 v2 e55, I think I'd probably feel the same about the 90's...
