Didinjoo Posted March 9, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 9, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got R-M Leica adapter and I wonder why the 24/2.8 and 35-70/2.8 are not listed on the Menu. Which setting I should use for both lenses? Thanks, Didi
Advertisement Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Hi Didinjoo, Take a look here R 24/2.8 & 35-70/2.8 not listed on M240?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Bobitybob Posted March 9, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 9, 2014 Due to the limited amount of memory space Leice seem only to have included the most expensive R lenses, not the whole range! Either way, It dosen't really matter, because as I understand it the R menu only adds the lens type to the EXIF and dosen't carry out any corrections. If you use Lightroom you could look in the Lens Profiles menu to se if it is listed, if not Adobe produce free software to allow you to produce your own! Hope that's correct and helpful. masjah Posted March 10, 2014 Share #3 Posted March 10, 2014 Bob, from the Leica Website: Now, and for the first time ever, the new Leica R-Adapter M enables almost all Leica R-Lenses ever built to be mounted on the new Leica M. Users can access a list of 20 dedicated profiles - including calibrated imaging workflows and EXIF lens recognition - for a range of R-Lenses covering wide-angle, standard, telephoto, zoom and macro lenses. This comprehensive portfolio of lenses opens up new potential for Leica M photographers, for example, video recording with Leica R zoom lenses. So perhaps it does a bit more than just add the lens type to the EXIF.
Bobitybob Posted March 10, 2014 Share #4 Posted March 10, 2014 John Thanks for that, I was a little unsure. However from the OP's point of view its the same result in that the lenses he owns are not in the Leica R menu selection or in the provided Adobe Lens Profiles in Lightroom. It would be interesting to know, bearing in mind the second part of his question how much correction takes place and if by selecting a near alternative it would cause the image to be distorted. I know that some people (me included) self code none Leica M Lenses to what we believe is the closest Leica equivalent, but surely these lenses have completely different characteristics and therefore any corrections applied would be incorrect for the none Leica lens. As such is it actually worth the worry are are we only doing it to get the lens type in the EXIF!
masjah Posted March 10, 2014 Share #5 Posted March 10, 2014 Bob, that is of course a very good question! I have a similar quesiton with regard to the 28/2.8 PC Super Angulon R shift lens. It's not in the menu list either, though it's not difficult to see why, since any corrections would inevitably depend heavily on the degree and direction of any shift that was applied. I had wondered if it would be worthwhile selecting either a standard 28mm R lens, or even a 15mm one, since the big image circle makes it sort of equivalent to that; but it would not be symmetric, because of the shift. I guess one just has to experiment and find the best equivalent by trial and error.
MarkP Posted March 11, 2014 Share #6 Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) I have not yet tried the 28mm R lens profile in-camera for the 28-PC but have used it uncoded. The standard 28mm R-lens correction profile in LR corrects the distortion of the 28-PC quite well when the lens is in a neutral position. However, the profile is not useable once the lens is shifted. As one would expect it enhances the distortion. Edited March 11, 2014 by MarkP

Didinjoo Posted March 17, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted March 17, 2014 Thanks for the advises. I bought the Novoflex adapter R>M and the 24/2.8 is listed on M240, but if I use Leica adapter then it is not listed. I haven't try with 35-70/2.8, will followup. Strange! why it is listed using Novoflex but not with the original Leica adapter? regards, Didi
Leicaiste Posted March 18, 2014 Share #9 Posted March 18, 2014 Thanks for the advises.I bought the Novoflex adapter R>M and the 24/2.8 is listed on M240, but if I use Leica adapter then it is not listed. Maybe because your Novoflex is not (properly) coded and what you are seeing is the M Lenses list. With the Leica adapter you are seeing the R Lenses list. Didinjoo Posted March 18, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted March 18, 2014 Yes, it was a mistake. What I saw with the Novoflex adapter was for M list and not R! Thanks!
Didinjoo Posted March 19, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted March 19, 2014 My Novoflex adapter (R>M) looks excatly as Jaap picture on other forums, but my M240 did not recognized the code. Any advise? What could be wrong? Thanks, Didi
swamiji Posted March 23, 2014 Share #12 Posted March 23, 2014 Novoflex had a bad batch of coded R>M adapters. I was lucky as the Novoflex Rep was standing there when I was demonstrating the defect to my dealer. It needs replacement.
