Help Required with R and Leicaflex

Hi all,

 

I am quite knowledgeable on M's and indeed have an M9-P and 12 lenses, I am much less knowledgeable on older R

 

A friend at work has acquired a few lenses, 4 in fact and a LeicaFles camera from her father when he passed away. Looks like they have been stored in a damp garage....

 

Very tatty in terms of grime, not physically damaged, with a good clean I'd call them tidy user condition BUT they have mould and some glass scratches. I've looks at Red Dot etc to guage good condition values and familiar with repair costs but would value any advice on what might be best to do with the following lenses

 

35 Summicron V1 11227 fist version

50 Simmicron V1 11218

90 Elmarit V1 11229

135 Elmarit V2 11211

 

Also a view on tatty Leicaflex would be appreciated

List them on ebay, be 'creative' with the product photos, mention you're selling on behalf of a friend and say the condition is 'minty'

 

Seriously though, assuming the intention is to sell rather than use them, I'd clean them as best as I could, then list on ebay with clear photos and accurate descriptions and they will find their own price. List each item at 99p with no reserve and it will encourage a bidding frenzy.

 

I doubt it is worth the cost of CLA's to sell as I wouldn't expect them to recoup the cost over what they'll make as is.

Take them apart and have a go at cleaning them yourself, plenty of threads about regarding how to do this, saliva on a cotton bud is one suggestion, if the glass is etched you're doomed though......fine lenses if they work.

Failing that, I'll take them off you for a derisory sum.

Red Dot will sell these for you for 15% Commission. That is my recommendation. They sold my late brothers screw thread outfit for good money. Your work colleague would know that she had got a fair price for them.

I too would go down the Red Dot commission route. BUT there is one crucial proviso; you say they have "mould". A bit of fustiness on the outside is one thing, but fungus on the glass is quite another! If it's fungus in/on the glass, then I suspect that a dealer wouldn't even want the items in the shop. (I wouldn't want one in my house in any sort of proximity to my other lenses.)

High Street Radio in Croydon Surrey has a very good repair and cleaning service.

A while ago I bought a few items from a friend which had mould in them . Friend had taken them to a dealer who had refused the items . I tok them to High St Radio and had the lenses cleaned and serviced and they come back almost like new. I think I paid about £80 per lens ( 2013 ) .

They will also do commission sales if you do not want to keep the items.
