Hello there,

I have done some forum research and found a tad bit of info, I have also emailed Leica directly about this but I am wondering if anyone can weigh in with your experiences here

 

I am thinking about buying a 2nd hand Leica M9 in excellent condition. Shows no signs of sensor corrosion right now. It comes with paperwork from a leica dealer which at the time was selling it used. So I would be the 3rd owner.

 

I wonder, if the sensor corrosion issue happens to me, lets say in a year or so from now.. Will Leica replace the sensor free of charge if I cannot prove that I am the original owner?

 

I just want to be sure I wont end up paying a possible 2K for a new sensor..

If you search for a thread in which a forum member had a telephone call with the Leica CEO, he confirmed that the replacement policy applies regardless of whether you are the original or subsequent owner.

Thank you guys very much for the reply, I guess I will have to take the internet's word for it.

 

I know on the Leica statement about it they mention that it does not matter how old the camera is but I don't recall reading about 2nd or 3rd owners. Is there any sort of official document OR any other people with actual experience in replacing the sensor for corrosion?

Found some extra info...

 

 

I'm really pleased, and relieved. I received written confirmation from Leica Customer Service today that Leica will replace corroded CCD sensors regardless of whether the camera is owned by the original owner, or purchased used.

 

That just might be the best warranty in the business.

I already posted this above. What more do you need to know besides the word of Leica's CEO? Well, I guess maybe that he's no longer CEO….

I bought a 2nd hand M9 in Sep. 2014, and have just sent it to Wetzlar for repair last month due to shutter problem. Leica got back to me not long ago saying that they will fix the shutter problem and adjust the RF plus some general cleaning...all free of charge.

 

So i guess it does apply to 2nd..3rd....owners.
