sblutter Posted February 1, 2015 Share #3 Posted February 1, 2015 In JPG: 1. Pick a lens that's closest in focal length or 2. Trial and error: Photograph an evenly lit wall, choose a setting with the least vignetting or 3. Shoot in DNG (raw) which doesn't apply those settings anyway, fix pic in post if needed (rarely). This is what I do. My Lens Detection is set to Off.

kivis Posted February 1, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted February 1, 2015 Lots of opinions, what to do?
geotrupede Posted February 1, 2015 Share #6 Posted February 1, 2015 honestly there is little or no effect of correction on lenses as they are all vey good. if you need to fix the red edge it is more effective to use cornerfix. otherwise coding adds nothing more that the exif data. but beware that the exif data is misleading as it refers to a leica lens. I used CV 28 f2, f1.9, 35 f1.7, 35 f1.2, 50 f1.1, 50 f1.5, 15 f4.5, 12 f5.6 no coding and no issues, just red edge. G.
tobey bilek Posted February 2, 2015 Share #7 Posted February 2, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) manual selection of a similar lens-trial and error. Then permanently code the lens. use manual detection use Cornerfix to repair what you can not for do in LR or Photoshop. Make a preset.
bocaburger Posted February 2, 2015 Share #8 Posted February 2, 2015 Similar lens worked ok with the M8 but not so much with the M9. On the M8 I coded my 15mm CV as a 16mm WATE, and the 21/4 as a 21/2.8 ASPH. On the M9 and M240 the 21/2.8 non-ASPH codes work best for both of those lenses. Also I had my 28/1.9 coded as a 28 Cron on the M8, but on the M9 and M240 a better code is the one for the V.4 28 Elmarit. For lenses longer than 35mm there is little or no correction applied, so selecting the nearest lens should be ok. I have never bothered coding those at all and find everything is just fine, other than lacking lens ID in EXIF which I couldn't care less about. menos I M6 Posted February 3, 2015 Share #9 Posted February 3, 2015 I don't use any profiles for most non Leica lenses at all. I experiment with certain critical lenses and learn which setup (lens profile, filters, lens hoods) works how and then simply use the most pleasing setup. Early on I found that I liked the (mostly vintage) non Leica lenses more interesting showing their optical defects rather than trying to compensate for these with lens profiles. I find the use of in camera lens profiles a big hassle as Leica never really sorted the profile menu (for starters allowing a user to de-select all profiles not in use to declutter the menu). I won't ruin a vintage lens with some 6-bit code machined to it's mount either. Some exceptions are really critical lenses as certain ultra wide angle lenses which I will use a in camera profile for (the 16/8 Zeiss for example works best as 16mm WATE and with center filter on the Mono as of it's symmetrical optical design). In terms of coding lenses for the use of EXIF data, I don't mind a lens not coded. I simply keyword photosets with the lenses used. With Leica lenses though I have my lenses coded when I have them CLA'ed.
