Hi I am looking for a wireless Flash trigger set for my M9.

I have studies several different brands and found out that Phottix is probably the one that I could afford and quite reliable.

As I know that M9's hotshoe is much tighter than other brands such as Canon. Does Phottix Ares work on M9? Thanks

I use Flashwave III. Tiny little unit that works amazingly well with Leica. You will need at least one receiver and transmitter. I use with 3 Nikon SB80DX, and they work well. One good thing about the old Nikon Flashes like SB24 and SB80 is that they can be used in A mode in M bodies with wonderful natural result. TTL is over-rated in my opinion. My M9 serves as a wonderful studio portrait camera with speedlights.

The ones from Yongnuo on eBay are cheap and very good. Just make sure you get the right model (the Nikon version is what you need). Note that none of the flash triggers will support TTL.

Thanks for both of your reply. What's the difference between Canon and Nikon model? Does this also apply to Phottix ones? Thanks

I second the Flashwave 3. The small size is great for Leicas. I use it on the MM & X Vario. The latter is able to sync up to 1/1000 of a second on continuous burst!

I use it with the Nikon SB-800, Canon 530exii & 430exii. I'm actually able to trigger all of them with only one receiver. I attach it to the 530, the nikon has a built in optical slave and I attach a tiny optical eye to the 430. I have never had one problem with the Flashwave.

I would strongly recommend the Yongnuo YN560-Tx flash controller and matching YN560-111 flashes.

Incredibly good value, powerful and reliable.

The controller allows you to remotely alter the power/zoom/mode of each flash from the unit on the camera. The unit seems to work with all the cameras I have (M, MM, T, XV) as it just triggers the controller/flash and nothing else.

Not sure that it matters whether Nikon or Canon versions as it is only the central pin (I think) that is active.....

This lot will cost you $250 all-in .....:D (offer does not include camera and lens .....)

I am amazed at what the chinese are doing with flashes now.

If i didnt already have a binch of flashes, i would seriously consider this setup

I love my work issued Canon RT system, but it frustrates me that it only works on Canon bodies.

Remember that you must use the RF 602 NIKON triggers as they work OK on Leica. DON't get the more recent RF 603 transceivers as these won't work.

paulmac - Is this the one you are talking about? http://amzn.com/B005VM1DW6 I already have the RF 603 NII and they don't work :(

Do you know if I bought the RF-600TX (http://amzn.com/B00460LJA0) would it trigger a strobe on the RF 603 NII?

Thanks

Darn. Of course I only have Canon flashes.

You can use the Canon ones on the Leica, but you have to put some tape over the pins. I've RF602s (for flashes or studio) and RF601s (studio dedicated) models both Canon and Nikon. I have to lower the synch speed to 1/125 sec when using the studio setup I've got here. The RF601 & RF602 are compatible with each other, but the RF603 units are not.

Let me ask a little more simple question...

I want to get a wireless trigger for my M9P to use with a corded Norman studio light kit...

Any suggestions?   All I need is something to trip the circuit.  Nothing fancy, just that fires a studio flash setup.

Thanks!

I had read that some of the Chinese units won't fire a corded flash, even though they have a sync cord.  Have you used yours on a power-supply type flash setup?  My Norman has a household blade (AC) plug to PC sync cord.  I'd like to do away with the sync cord altogether and just plug a trigger directly into the two-bladed port; but I suppose that's not feasable?

If you want very small radio trigger and receivers,  I use FlashQ from Lightpix Labs. They can connect up to 8 flashes. I use them on my Leica T with the SF26 and older Nikon flashes and are very easy to set up and they always works like a charm. The FlashQ receiver has also a sync cord output via Func. Port (micro-USB form factor). It does what the Yongnuo does but in a minute package and very low price (I have no connections whatsoever).

So they look the business on the Leica's.

I bought them in black though........

They're a perfect size for an M9...  but the website says they won't work on my flash setup.  :(

  • FlashQ receiver is not recommended for the old high-voltage flashes and those flashes which not self-powered by battery.
