Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted October 18, 2014 Share #2 Posted October 18, 2014 I forgot to mention that I have tried most of the competition and without a doubt Arte di Mano case's are the best ..........no comparison
Mike Lavigne Posted October 18, 2014 Share #3 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) just purchased a Monochrome and likely wanting this same half case and strap. a question.....did you consider eliminating the integral tripod socket? and have you tried the tripod socket yet with your 0.95 Noct attached and did it feel solid? I understand it saves $55 to eliminate the tripod socket as well as lightening the half case. my sense is that I would remove the half case anyway when using a tripod, but if it's very solid I might just leave the tripod socket there. thanks. I have the tripod socket on my 1/2 case for the M (240) and I have used it with my Noctilux mounted in both landscape and portrait on a tripod and yes it is solid. I would have no reservations about using it with a tripod.............it is very solid
MarkP Posted October 18, 2014 Share #5 Posted October 18, 2014 I did not get the tripod socket on my Arte di Mano half-case. My thoughts are contrary to Neil in that although the case is an exceptionally tight fit I would not trust it not screwed into the camera to hold it secure and completely stable, especially with a heavier/longer lens. Even if it did screw into the camera it's such a pain to unscrew whenever I want to remove/change cards or batteries that I don't think it is worthwhile. I had a half-case with a screw into the camera (Luigi, and very badly made) but it was such a pain that I cut the screw off with a Dremel. If I'm doing tripod work the camera can be out of it's case (which I don't use all of the time regardless). Oh, and I agree that the Arte di Mano cases are exceptionally well made and finished. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/308871-m9-monochrom-half-cases.html

There are two reasons I don't want tripod screws: 1. if it does screw into the camera then it's secure but a pain to quickly remove to access the card and/or battery. 2. I'd still not trust my camera and lens for safety reasons where only the case was fixed to the tripod (even the fits-like-a-glove AdM case), and without the camera tightly fixed tot he tripod it risks movement and blurring with longer exposures. I do accept you haven't found this to be a problem yet. Kind regards, Mark Edited October 19, 2014 by MarkP
Mike Lavigne Posted October 19, 2014 Share #8 Posted October 19, 2014 Neil and Mark, many thanks to both you guys for the feedback.. clearly there are two alternate approaches to dealing with this question. assuming I leave the standard tripod mount in the half case I can simply try it for myself. Mark, when I read over the details from Arte Di Mano about the design of the bottom of the half case they mentioned the tripod mount requires a small layer of wood for stiffening and strength which adds weight and adds height. they spun it that this added height actually allows for a better grip as it makes the camera taller. my question is when you deleted the tripod mount was the half case then shorter? or did they leave the wood and size the same? I know I can ask them that question but wondered if you know? thanks. if the wood is still there and the height is the same then it's mostly saving the $55 that is involved. MarkP Posted October 19, 2014 Share #9 Posted October 19, 2014 Hi Mike, I don't know. I never wanted the tripod screw for the reasons described above so I just asked for cases without it (M240 and monochrom). If I'm using a tripod I'm not using a half-case. Is should add that I don't always have the half-cases fitted to my cameras. Depends on my mood and what I 'm doing. Just email Arte di Mano and ask. Sejun is very helpful and will answer your question. Oh, and if you want you can also get the stitching and internal felt colour of your choice - all black for me. Mike which ever option you go for you will get a fantastic case for your camera if you go with the Arte di mano..........[emoji3]
