Myvalko Posted September 9, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok let's go, my first Thread It is today the 5th anniversary of the announcement of the M9 (and also X1). I have mine for more than two years but I am still really happy with it. I was always fearing than after a couple of years, the electronic will not stand. But what a camera !! I always enjoy the pictures quality !! My Pentax K5 starts to be old, my K100 is dead for years... Do you feel the same? Would it be worth upgrading ? Isn't it better to focus on lenses ? How long will it last ? For the moment, life goes on with joy...
Advertisement Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Hi Myvalko, Take a look here Happy 5th Birthday M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted September 9, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 9, 2014 (edited) Well put If you are happy, why should you upgrade? Electronics can last and last. Most failures are early ones. My older working digital cameras are a DMR and a Digilux2 Still going strong after a decade and no sign there is not another decade in them at least... So keep enjoying your marvellous M9... NikonJeff Posted September 9, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 9, 2014 My M9 turned two at the end of May and every time I even think about selling it I take it out and shoot with it. I usually pair it with my E43 Summilux 50 v2 or my Summilux 35 ASPH. Absolutely love the colors it produces! We spent our vacation in Maine this year and I intentionally brought only the M9 and my MM along with 4 lenses (35Lux/50Lux + 15/75 VL Heliar). During this trip I shot with two model and also spent time shooting the boardwalk at Old Orchard Beach at dawn three days and am very happy with the results. No desire to go into the new M240 unless something catastrophic happens and the M9 cannot be repaired… Even then I would likely look for another M9 or M-E so all of my bits matched (batteries, grips etc.). k-hawinkler Posted September 9, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 9, 2014 Happy 5th Birthday M9 indeed! My M9 arrived 2009.12.30. It's the first Leica camera I ever touched or even laid my eyes on. I had to wait for 3 months for my M9 to arrive while I was buying used lenses for a camera I didn't have yet. And it took me several more months before I figured out that the frame selector switch didn't work! The following is one of the first images that I took the next day on 2009.12.31, though processed today. Welcome, dear visitor! platypus Posted September 9, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 9, 2014 Thanks for posting that information it's nice to know! Happy Birthday sweet M9........ My M9 and I have been enjoying an ongoing (albeit platonic) love affair for three an a half years now. We are almost never apart and it provides the very best of companionship.....what a camera! bocaburger Posted September 10, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 10, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had my M9 4 years, knock on wood without a single glitch, not even a lockup. It is now to be enjoyed by its new owner. It was a great camera, and pretty much everything I could ask for in a digital Leica. WIsh I could've kept it but was just too much cash to let continue depreciating now that I have an M240. I ruminated a lot before finally selling it. I didn't feel that way about my M8 at all, was happy to see it and those annoying IR filters go.
carl_valiquet Posted September 10, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 10, 2014 I love the files I get with the M9. I read somewhere (correct me if I am wrong) that the files of the M9 were made to resemble the Kodachrome 25 film. True, when I import the M9 file into EXPOSURE 6 and click on KODAK KODACHROME, there are but slight differences between the two files. The Kodachrome 25 gives more saturation and adds grain. But after all this said, I would like to add that I miss the analog years and especially Kodachrome. Carl*

IWC Doppel Posted September 10, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 10, 2014 Bought my M9-P to replace my M8 2.5 years ago, it's been flawless. Needs another sensor clean, just over 16.5k actuations, love it

albireo_double Posted September 14, 2014 Share #13 Posted September 14, 2014 I am with my third M9 now, having previously sold the other two to "upgrade". And while I still love the images the M9 makes, I am feeling the upgrade itch again, since my current M9-P (late silver model) is in a habit of freezing. I have only lost one image in the past two months that I've owned it, but it froze again today; could not even be switched off, only the last image was on the LCD. Had to remove and reinsert the battery; interestingly all images are on the card. But I have to say, I am getting a bit tired of this SD card problem or whatever it is. So yes, Happy Birthday M9! algrove Posted September 14, 2014 Share #14 Posted September 14, 2014 I still think the blues from the M9 beat the blues of the M240 OOC-RAW.

The problems with the M9 seem fairly well known. But also the work arounds. Since I have been using a Panasonic Gold card my M9 hasn't acted up any more. Please, have a look here. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/248319-m9-firmware-comparative-shot-times.html Edited September 14, 2014 by k-hawinkler

albireo_double Posted September 15, 2014 Share #17 Posted September 15, 2014 I still think the blues from the M9 beat the blues of the M240 OOC-RAW. Exactly as you say. What firmware version are you at? Perhaps that may be you issue? Using latest firmware 1.196 and cards that used to work in the previous two M9s without any problems. NikonJeff Posted September 15, 2014 Share #18 Posted September 15, 2014 Exactly as you say. Using latest firmware 1.196 and cards that used to work in the previous two M9s without any problems. Just for the heck of it, have you tried loading the previous 1.176 version and see if that helps? I went back to that version because of the discreet mode issue that I was encountering where the camera would lock up. I wasn't one of the people using discreet and continuous either, just discreet...
