No price reduction in my country.

This could just as easily be that the shop you are refering to is having a hard time moving that particular camera. Could be a refurb or demo even.

That said, I would be surprised if there is not a monochom version of the M240 on the way, but I wouldnt expect that for a few years yet, possibly right before or after a new one is announced. (M250?)

It seems other manufacturers are slowing down their crazy-frequent model update cycle, and Leica would foolish to pump out a new M now unless there is a significant upgrade. Just think of the Canon 5D3. As as long as its selling well, why kill the model?

Schiphol is taxfree/pricereduced for EU residents (although they try to avoid the price cut for scarce articles). That means -21% = -1600 Euro.....

I have no idea whether a new MM will come, but I would think it unlikely. If I were Leica I would keep building it until the sensor production goes into the maintenance phase.

At any rate a lower price in an airport tax-free zone is no indication.

Their price has been 6900€ for a long time. When I travelled through there last week it was still 6900€. They may have changerd it since then, but if so the only reason is because they have had virtually no success in selling such an expensive camera on an airport and are now reducing the price in order to shift it.

They used to have the S range at the airport as well but could never sell it. I have it on good authority that they eventually sold it at a substantial loss to one of the Dutch Leica dealers in order to get rid of it.

Jaaaap are you having a dig at me.......lol

Reason if there is a new one announced in September then I won't be able to get a new one in October. Remember they announced a new M in September and it was a year before they were available

We're, what, within 4-6 months of a likely announcement of a next generation M? Let's hope that. if there's a new MM in the pipeline, it's based on Leica's next generation CMOS, with a better than the M's 1.3 ISO bump over the M9 vintage CCD technology, and for goodness sakes, without the fatter form factor!

I heard the new one will be announced the day after you buy the current model :)

Not at all. Think of the advantages. Not only can you buy the most expensive digital M now, you'll be able to get ANOTHER one half a year on, enabling you to buy two more Noctiluxes and three APO Summicrons within the year !

I have read the same rumours on a Monochrom update of course.

Regarding the ISO performance of the M (Typ 240) I guess that what each photographer considers acceptable noise performance is individual and it depends what you are doing with it too. I don't know about that 1.3 figure quoted?

A BW conversion from 2000 ISO looks like this:

My own experience is that I'm happy to use 2000 ISO with my M (Typ 240) when needed. My personal preferred highest with the M9 was 1000 ISO.

I don't understand these remarks about the fatter form factor though. As far as I recall this initial impression came from the quoted higher depth of the new camera including the dial protrusion at the rear. The size of the baseplate or top plate is virtually identical to that of the M9.

Repeat an Internet myth often enough and it becomes gospel, Geoff.

The same with rumours. I can already see the angry posts in September about the promised new Monochrom that did not appear...
