crow Posted April 22, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 22, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Summicron C 40mm works just fine. When I mount the Tele Elmarit 90/2.8 there seems to be a difficulty metering; meter becomes out of order. When trying with the Summicron 40 everything meters just fine. Is it a problem of length, the Tele Elmarit is too long making difficult for the meter to read through?

xalo Posted April 22, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 22, 2014 Hello Crow, What exactly is happening to the meter? It can't be the focal length as such, but of course, the metering area relative to the subject is getting much smaller than with the 40mm. When metering so selectively — an area about the size of the rangefinder patch with a 90mm lens — you can end up with a very different reading compared to wider lenses, depending on the subject area measured (i.e. very bright or dark). xalo Posted April 22, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 22, 2014 P.S.: Just notice that this is in the wrong section. If the mods want to move it to the Film Ms?

Michael Geschlecht Posted April 24, 2014 Share #5 Posted April 24, 2014 (edited) Hello Crow, Welcome to the Forum. When you are metering with a 40mm lens the meter is reading an area SLIGHTLY LARGER than THE CIRCLE which appears in the viewfinder when the 50mm frame is projected. The circle itself defines the area covered by a 50mm lens. When the meter is reading the area metered by a 90mm lens the area being measured is reduced. With a 90mm lens the area read & measured by the meter is a circle with a diameter of THE DIAGONAL of the RANGEFINDER PATCH. Use the ranefinder patch to place this circle when you are metering. The NARROWER the angle of coverage of the lens: The NARROWER the angle of coverage of the meter. In an SLR the angle of coverage of the viewfinder changes as the angle of coverage of the lens changes. With a range/viewfinder: The angle of view seen in the viewfinder stays the same. Regardless of lens in use. Best Regards, Michael Edited April 24, 2014 by Michael Geschlecht
