freecitizen Posted April 15, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 15, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Everyone I have just had a new replacement sensor installed in my M9. The camera was an early m odel and the sensor which was replaced was one of the early ones. I am tempted to sell this camera, exactly as it has come back from Leica, without using it - which I hope will give me the best price. The camera otherwise is in excellent condition. I have the M240 and an M8, and could use some cash at the moment. I was always very happy with the output of the M9. I seem to recall the original sensor was made by Kodak, but I think the new sensors are made by someone else. Before I make the final decision - can anyone tell me if the latest M9 sensor is better/worse than the original .... or has anyone noticed differences between these two sensors. ? Many Thanks. Advertisement Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Hi freecitizen, Take a look here Latest replacement M9 sensor - any differences ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tookaphotoof Posted April 15, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 15, 2014 You probably still have the same sensor, but if you really are in doubt it wouldn't hurt the price if you take it out for a day...
jaapv Posted April 15, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 15, 2014 The sensors nowadays are by Truesense, who took over from Kodak when they went bankrupt -exactly the same.
menos I M6 Posted April 16, 2014 Share #4 Posted April 16, 2014 I had a sensor replacement in my M9 and have not seen any difference in the files to the original sensor. I doubt we could. Either sell the camera fresh (seems sensible, as you use the M240), as you indicated or just keep using it, if you see anything with the M9 sensor more to your liking than with the M240 sensor. I decided to keep my M9, as I mainly use a Mono and the M9 is identical in controls and UI to the Mono, a M240 would throw me a wrench.
freecitizen Posted April 19, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted April 19, 2014 Thanks for the replies ............. I'll think about what to do next over Easter, but I think I should probably sell the M9 ........ even though it is a great camera .... Thankyou for your responses .. much appreciated. MarkP Posted April 19, 2014 Share #6 Posted April 19, 2014 Why not sell the M8 and keep the M240 and M9?
freecitizen Posted April 19, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted April 19, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, I agree .... I have to think about the M8 too ..... but the M8 is worth less than half the second hand price of the M9, is still a very good camera ( at low ISO ), at least as sharp ( or sharper ) as the M9 and is a brilliant Infrared camera ....... it also has a relatively new 1/8000 shutter in it. Decisions, decisions .............................
MarkP Posted April 19, 2014 Share #8 Posted April 19, 2014 I understand, but two full frame cameras probably complement each other better.
leafster Posted April 19, 2014 Share #9 Posted April 19, 2014 (edited) Nice to learn that the sensor is still the same. My M9P sensor recently shows one persistent vertical line after 2+ years of use. Going to send it in to my local Leica rep, and was told that I have to wait at least 2 months. Might get a used nex 5/7 or gxr. Edited April 19, 2014 by leafster
CrisRose Posted April 19, 2014 Share #10 Posted April 19, 2014 No differences with the new sensor that went in mine
huk Posted April 20, 2014 Share #11 Posted April 20, 2014 The sensors nowadays are by Truesense, who took over from Kodak when they went bankrupt -exactly the same. Hello everyone, concerning the sensor ratings for the M9(-P) and the M-E, the strange thing is that according to Camera Sensor Ratings by DxOMark - DxOMark the sensors in the 3 cameras come with slightly different numbers. This does, of course, not say something about our subjective rating of the pictures recorded by these sensors. Is it possible that the sensors vary in such a way, don't know. Cheers --Uli
jaapv Posted April 21, 2014 Share #12 Posted April 21, 2014 Just natural variation in the test data readout - quite normal
