jmahto Posted March 23, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) For my business trip to Vienna I traveled only with M9 and 28mm Cron ASPH. For the first time I decided to take only one lens and leave my 15mm, 50mm and 90mm at home. I should say I felt so much free walking around with one camera, one lens and enjoyed so much. I shot in all light conditions and was very happy with the results. Vienna - a set on Flickr BTW, I was so happy to see bicycle paths everywhere. Beautiful city.
Advertisement Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Hi jmahto, Take a look here Travel with M9+28mmCron (one camera one lens). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Herr Barnack Posted March 23, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 23, 2014 You have some very nice images of Vienna - congratulations! The 28 'cron ASPH is a special lens; very good choice of glass to take on this trip.
sm23221 Posted March 23, 2014 Share #3 Posted March 23, 2014 Nice. Very liberating. Would you do it again?
wda Posted March 23, 2014 Share #4 Posted March 23, 2014 I would feel much happier with a 50mm + 28mm two-lens kit. Not much extra bulk and weight with two Summicrons.
jmahto Posted March 23, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted March 23, 2014 (edited) Nice. Very liberating. Would you do it again? Certainly. Although I must say that if I am going on personal vacation then I will also carry tiny CV15 and 50mm lux. 50mm lens is attached to NEX6 so that I can shoot pics of individual persons if needed. 50+NEX6 goes in jacket pocket and doesn't add too much bulk for walk around. And if my primary goal is to shoot people alone, instead nature/architecture then 50mm goes on M9 as primary and wider shots are covered by NEX6+CV15. I hate changing lens outside. But for just one camera/one lens, I am so much comfortable with 28mm. Edited March 23, 2014 by jmahto
MarkP Posted March 24, 2014 Share #6 Posted March 24, 2014 Very nice. I also liked you B&W landscapes very much. The28 Summicron ASPH is one of my favourite lenses although usually paired with the 50 Summilux ASPH (FLE)
geoffreyg Posted March 24, 2014 Share #7 Posted March 24, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Lovely shots, excellent tonality. Have the 28 elmarit, doesn't seem to have the same richness - is that your experience? Is the 'cron that much sweeter?
semi-ambivalent Posted March 24, 2014 Share #8 Posted March 24, 2014 Lovely shots, excellent tonality. Have the 28 elmarit, doesn't seem to have the same richness - is that your experience? Is the 'cron that much sweeter? It turned out that I really like my Elmarit ASPH. But, shooting film, faster lenses are always seductive. Give up Geoffrey, you're not fooling anyone. Get your checkbook and go shopping... s-a
jmahto Posted March 24, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted March 24, 2014 (edited) Lovely shots, excellent tonality. Have the 28 elmarit, doesn't seem to have the same richness - is that your experience? Is the 'cron that much sweeter? Thanks. I use LR5 and it may be processing (little bit of clarity, vibrance and slight s curve). I had the Elmarit for an year and I really loved it (specially for hiking) but indoor shots with M9 was trouble since limited ISO of M9. That is why I got 28 cron and for some time I kept both. I didn't find any practical difference between them (sharpness, contrast both very much same). In my flickr page the rain mist shot is with 28 elmarit. exp_sm_20121117TolmanPeak-1071149 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Over time I found that I could even shoot environmental portraits with cron if I am close to the subject wide open and it is able to isolate the subject more than elmarit due to f2 (I haven't put these on flickr page since they are family portraits). This was a plus for me (in addition to better indoor shots) and I sold the elmarit. However I must say, I do miss the small size of elmarit for hiking. If money would be no object, I would have kept both of them. Edited March 24, 2014 by jmahto

frankwaller Posted March 29, 2014 Share #11 Posted March 29, 2014 (edited) Travelwise, I haul M9+cron 28+50+tele-elmarit 90 (with lens cases), couple of spare batteries, microfibre cloth and eye dropper bottle of isopropanol in a Domke F6 - my shoulders are broad and I have the constitution of an old, beaten but rebellious tourist camel... still, I find the kit heavy and cumbersome by the end of a days' city photo-hike. (I find) the 28 magical on the M8, less so on the M9. The cron 50/f2 is exceptional on the M9 - but the very next time I travel/hike, the CL40 will be my sole companion - sublime, ymmv frank Edited March 29, 2014 by frankwaller

Are you shooting/editing DNG, or JPG, out of your M9?
jmahto Posted March 30, 2014 Author Share #13 Posted March 30, 2014 Love the colors in your images. Are you shooting/editing DNG, or JPG, out of your M9? Thanks. I shoot DNG and process in LR5. In general I like the colors that comes out of M9 compared to my old Canon 40D and current NEX6.
